Mahindra e2o Plus Overview

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), being known for making tough and muscular SUVs, is gradually expanding towards the Electric Vehicle (EV) segment. The company marked its entry in the segment by introducing the 2-door e2o in 2013. Just a couple of months back, the home-grown automaker brought in the electric derivative of its Verito sedan, which was christened as eVerito. Now, it has gone a step ahead and introduced the 4-door and bigger version of the e2o hatch, named as e20 Plus in the country. Mahindra is taking full advantage of the FAME scheme initiated by the government of India, which provides subsidy and incentives on the sales of electric vehicles. Being dubbed as a 'CitySmart' car, it is being presented in four variants: P2, P4, P6 and P8.
Mahindra e2o Plus Overview

Mahindra e2o Plus Exterior

Mahindra e2o Plus comes with a fairly conventional tall-boy design; however, it can't be termed as totally 'proportional.' It is 310 mm longer, 61 mm wider and 25 mm taller than the 2-door e2o. The big surprise comes in the form of the wheelbase, which is 300 mm longer than the 2-door sibling. The all-electric hatch flaunts an all-new front grille, which is flanked by projector headlamps. The same pair of headlamps also does duties to the e2o. The side profile gets a unique glasshouse, while the rear-end boasts of a new roof-mounted spoiler and vertical tail-lamp cluster. The e2o Plus is available in four vibrant colours: Coral Blue, Sparkling Wine, Arctic Silver and Solid White.

Enter the cabin and the first thing you would notice is the oodles of space. Although the 2-door e2o was also quite spacious, the e2o Plus raises the bar significantly in this aspect. There is adequate legroom for the front as well as rear occupants, and headroom is also appreciable. The seats offer decent comfort, while the boot space at 135 litre could have been improved. The dashboard is borrowed from the 2-door e2o and features a Blaupunkt touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto. The centre console houses rotary air vents and a digital instrument cluster. Other features include an electric power steering, power windows, reverse camera, electronically-adjustable exterior mirrors, keyless go, Smart Phone app connectivity, etc. to name a few.

Mahindra e2o Plus Engine & Transmission

Mahindra e2o Plus is powered by a 210 AH Lithium-ion battery, which generates the maximum power of 25 bhp at 3500 rpm and peak torque of 70 Nm at 1000 rpm. However, the same battery develops 40 bhp of top power at 3500 rpm and 91 Nm of highest torque at 2000 rpm with the top-end P8 variant. The battery is linked to a direct drive transmission, which is not a conventional gearbox as it has no clutch. The hatch comes with Regenerative Braking Technology (first in India), which charges the battery whenever the brakes are applied. The range-topping P8 variant does the 0-60 kmph sprint in less than 10 seconds, while clocking a top speed of 85 kilometers. The other variants take 14 seconds to reach the 60 kmph mark from standstill, while having a top speed of 80 kmph.

Mahindra e2o Plus Mileage

Mahindra e2o Plus comes with a driving range of 110 kilometers on a full charge, though the top-end P8 variant has a slightly better driving range of 140 kilometers on a full charge. There is also a 'Revive' feature on offer, which extends the driving range by 5-10 kilometers when the car runs low on energy so that the owner can reach home or the nearest charging station.

Mahindra e2o Plus Braking and Safety

Mahindra e2o Plus has disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The hatch gets Hill Assist feature, which prevents it from slipping backward or forward on a slope. The company is not offering airbags or ABS even on the top variant.

Mahindra e2o Plus Performance and Handling

Mahindra e2o Plus is developed for city driving and serves the purpose decently. One is bound to embrace disappointment if it takes the hatch on the highway and pushes hard to squeeze brisk acceleration out of it. The suspension setup is pretty nice and absorbs the majority of bumps; however, larger obstacles at higher speeds do make their presence felt despite the well-tuned suspension. The handling is quite amazing due to the small turning radius of 4.35 m and electric power steering. The hatch maneuvers good enough through the thick city traffic and narrow roads.

What do we think about Mahindra e2o Plus?

We strongly think that Mahindra e2o Plus is a decent city car, if not the ideal one. In the era of electric mobility and ever-rising pollution levels, it can be the game-changer due to its aggressive pricing. The low running cost of 70 p/km, zero-emission and spacious cabin are the biggest USPs of the hatch. Also, the Government offers tax exemptions, subsidies and incentives on the purchase of e2o Plus to encourage the sales.

Mahindra e2o Plus Competitors

Mahindra e2o Plus has no direct or indirect rival in the Indian market due to lack of electric vehicles.
