Mahindra Thar is mainly an off the road vehicle with very few passenger comfort features present. The major USP of this vehicle is its powerful engine that allows it to tackle rough terrain or stiff incline easily. This vehicle is blessed with a 2.5-litre diesel engine that produces 105 bhp and with a maximum torque of 247 Nm that is then transmitted through a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 4x4 variant of this vehicle gets a Borg Warner manual shift with low reduction gear. The drive-by-wire technology ensures quicker and controlled throttle response that allows you to effectively cope with the rigours of the hilly terrain.
This SUV is available with two types of diesel engine options. Its base and mid range variants are fitted with a 2.5-litre MDI 3200TCL diesel engine that has a displacement capacity of 2523cc. This engine based on DOHC technology can generate a maximum power of 63bhp in combination with a peak torque output of 182.5Nm between 1500 to 1800. A 2.5-litre diesel engine on the other hand powers its top end variant that has a displacement capacity of 2498cc. It is integrated with a common rail based direct injection fuel supply system, which allows it to churn out peak power and torque outputs of 105bhp at 3800rpm and 247Nm in the range of 1800 to 2000rpm respectively.
As my friend quoted review, it comes with a CRDe 2.5 litre engine, which has a very good towing capacity, the engine generates a power of 63bhp with a peak torque of 182.5Nm. It has a maximum power of 105bhp with a peak torque of 247 Nm. Overall we can say a decent SUV with a nice engine power, but if we compare it with its competitors, I am not much satisfied by the performance of this SUV.
