Mahindra TUV300 (2015-2019) Overview

Mahindra TUV300 (2015-2019) Overview
Mahindra has emerged as a flourishing utility major in India with some of the most popular SUVs in its portfolio like XUV500 and Scoprio. Aimed at producing viable SUVs for the mass customer base in India, the company had rolled out a couple of models that failed miserably. One such model is Mahindra Quanto, this sub-four meter SUV just could not take off in the highly competitive segment. While most think that TUV is the replacement of Quanto, it may not be as what they believe, of course it is a sub-four meter compact SUV that aims at the mass segment but it is a new model that has indeed been built from scratch.Mahindra TUV300 (2015-2019) Overview
The hint of Bolero is clearly evident in the SUV, but as speculated it is either not a successor to the model. So that pretty much clears that TUV300 is a new model and not a replacement to any of the above mentioned SUVs. Based on the all-new-ladder frame chassis, TUV300 features a 5+2 seating layout, there are two additional jump seats placed behind the second row. Available only in the diesel avatar, the SUV has been inherited with the same engine under the hood which powers Quanto. From the exteriors, TUV300 appears rugged and potent, Mahindra has rendered a rather deliberate boxy look to the SUV that to some extent defines its nomenclature ‘Tough Utility vehicle’. Cabin gets good quality plastic and material along with almost all the vital features inset for occupants’ comfort. Moreover, the availability of an automated manual transmission brings the SUV above others in the segment. As for the pricing, the Mahindra TUV300 price in India is affordable, even the higher variants have been tagged competitively.Mahindra TUV300 (2015-2019) Overview

Taking inspiration from the ‘battle tank’, TUV300 has been shaped in a rather boxy manner which may or may not go well with the customer, reason being that some may find it tough and rugged while others may think that it is too plain jane to stand competition like Hyundai Creta, Maruti S-Cross, Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster. Mahindra TUV300 pictures of the outside testify the company’s attempt to come up with a rugged vehicle, but what really works for the SUV is that despite its small size it manages to appeal customers and is not mistaken for an oversized hatchback. Despite its sub-four meter length, the SUV does not seem petite or compressed, probably because it is not feature clad on the outside, the unnecessary styling to make it look sporty has been skipped which works well for it.Mahindra TUV300 (2015-2019) Exterior
Front is bold, the engine hood is short and front apron is unusually wide. Radiator grille is reminiscent of Jeep and a hint of chrome is evident around the rectangular openings. Head lights are designed in such as way that fits well with the bold front end. Body coloured lower bumper gets square shaped fog lights featuring chrome surrounds. Air inlets are again wide that add to the aggressive stance. Wheel arches are rather rectangular than round, side view is simple, the black treatment around the window frame, dual tone power adjustable ORVMs, body painted outside door handles and window beltline altogether lends a suave look. Rear too has been designed in line with the rest of the body, a set of simple tail lights and mounted spare wheel are equipped on the tailgate. And the black painted roof rails have been atop appear sportMahindra TUV300 (2015-2019) Exterior

Overriding the belief of a clumsy cabin, this sub-four meter SUV will totally surprise you as step inside. Space is good for passengers in front and rear, even the legroom and headroom is comfortable. The plastic quality, material used, fit and finish is so far the best as far as Mahindra vehicles go. Seat are covered with dual tone upholstery, the 5+2 seating layout allows accommodating seven occupants. Although, there are two rows only, but Mahindra has affixed two jump seats behind the second row. The hexa-pod centre console and twin-pod instrument cluster lend the much required chic look to the cabin. Equipment wise, TUV300 is affluent, centre console gets a touchscreen infotainment system, steering wheel comes with mounted controls for audio system and Bluetooth connectivity.Mahindra TUV300 (2015-2019) Interior
Besides, the cabin features Aux-In and USB port. Reverse parking sensors have also been employed and the company has provided an option for reverse parking camera (to get this option contact Mahindra TUV300 dealers). Storage space for luggage at the back is around 384 litres, storage space within the cabin is not very impressive though. Besides, there are various accessory packages and a combat made-to-order green shade too.Mahindra TUV300 (2015-2019) Interior

Mahindra TUV300 (2015-2019) Engine & Transmission

Mahindra TUV300 (2015-2019) Engine & Transmission
Mahindra has shared most of the parts from its other cars and similarly, the engine has been borrowed from one of its compact SUVs, Quanto. The 1.5 litre, three cylinder, two stage turbo charger mHawk diesel engine is armed under the bonnet but unlike Quanto, this one will produce 80 PS of power instead of 100 PS. Maximum torque produced by the diesel engine is 230 Nm. Mahindra TUV300 transmission option consists of two gearboxes, one is the five-speed manual transmission and the other is the five-speed automated manual transmission. A four wheel drive option is missing, the SUV gets a two-wheel drive system.

Mahindra TUV300 (2015-2019) Mileage

Mahindra TUV300 (2015-2019) Mileage
Fuel economy on offer stands at 18.49 kms in a litre which is commendable for a SUV. Like other Mahindras, this one too comes with a micro hybrid technology which includes a start-stop function. This feature in turn aides towards enhanced fuel economy. Besides, there is an option for eco mode too, that again enables increased efficiency.

Mahindra TUV300 (2015-2019) Braking and Safety

Mahindra TUV300 (2015-2019) Braking and Safety
Disc brakes in front and drum brakes at rear perform respective duties. Anti-lock-braking system and electronic brakeforce distribution is available on the high end grade as standard fare while the base trims get it as an optional feature. Airbags are available in front for the driver, other than this features like immobilizer, central locking etc are also incorporated.

Mahindra TUV300 (2015-2019) Performance and Handling

Mahindra TUV300 (2015-2019) Performance and Handling
Seems like Mahindra had worked really hard on this one, not that it performs brilliantly, but the SUV is certainly impressive. The 80 PS diesel engine is capable enough to give a good start to the vehicle. There is that initial grunt like other Mahindras, hence there is lack of refinement. In fact there is an insignificant turbo lag too, but it does not bother much. Steering wheel is heavy, but responsive at the same time. Overall, it is a well suited car for city driving as it enables easy manoeuvrability.

What do we think about Mahindra TUV300 (2015-2019)?

What do we think about Mahindra TUV300 (2015-2019)?
Mahindra has come with a boxy SUV which may be liked by many and may not be liked by some, but it has not over-styled it which makes it a winner for us. The space on offer inside the cabin despite confined length is something to learn from Mahindra engineers. Seven-seat option is again viable for large Indian families but does it really allow enough space for the last two passengers seated on the jump seats? Interior quality and styling is good, equipments embedded are ample and even the performance is appreciable. At this price, TUV300 is a complete package. What do we think about Mahindra TUV300 (2015-2019)?

Mahindra TUV300 (2015-2019) Competitors

Compact SUV segment has seen various entrants ever since Duster barged in. With pretty good options in the segment, TUV300 could have a tough time. Rivals like Hyundai Creta, Maruti S-Cross, Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster are already clinching numbers. As for the looks, Hyundai Creta stands tall followed by Ford EcoSport. There is enough space inside the cabin for the passengers in first two rows. Features embedded inside are almost similar as all auto makers are stuffing their cars well. The only area where it may score high is the performance, not that is a conventional looking car, but performance is where is shows it true character. Mahindra TUV300 price may also get it some spotlight and could be one of the reasons for customers to buy a seven seater instead of the five-seaters.
