Feeling upset and cheated

Overall rating: 3 Reviewed By: Sachin Joshi on 04 April 2018
The overall cost of the small things Mahindra have deleted is probably less than Rs 1000. Unfortunately, these things cannot be retrofitted also. Instead of that happy feeling of acquiring a new car, my overall feeling is of upsetness and of being cheated (for small things).  Read More »

Mahindra XUV500 (2015 - 2018) Overview

Mahindra XUV500 retains the ‘Cheetah-inspired’ silhouette while it gets a couple of cosmetic changes on the outside. Spruced up interiors brag styling changes and numerous additional features taking the comfort quotient to another level. Striking changes made to the exteriors are done in the front profile which now features a better sculpted bonnet marked by redesigned Z-shaped LED head lights and an assertive front grille. The clumsy front bumper has been revamped rendering it a more refined look.

The chrome trims around the new auxiliary lamps lends a tad flashy look which could have been modified to a much simpler one. 17 inch alloy wheels flaunt new design, also the rear view outside mirrors come incorporated with puddle lamps. Chrome work has been done generously which is visible around the window belt line and above the number plate. Cabin gets a comprehensive tweak, the new dual tone interior colour scheme featuring black and beige looks posh. Plastic quality is far better than before which is one major improvement in the cabin. Other styling cues such as sporty aluminium pedals and blue backlighting add sporty flair to the interiors. The Visteon-developed 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system looks much better now, all thanks to the thorough revisions it has gone through.Mahindra XUV500 (2015 - 2018) Overview
Also the touch interface gets a larger display, a new rear view camera has also been installed. Mahindra’s new Blue Sense app permits the occupants to curb audio and air-con setting via their phones. Mahindra has also added a new variant to the model series, dubbed W10, this variant sits at the top of the line-up. Ranked at the top of the range, W10 comes fitted with additional features like keyless entry and go, an electric sunroof and a six-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat. Third row is cramped and does not offer much space to the passengers. There is no change in the engine set up and transmission, the SUV continues to derive power from the previous diesel motor, the powerful mHawk 2.2 litre diesel powertrain. Mahindra XUV500 price in India is placed very competitively as compared to the rivals. Considering the amount of space this humongous SUV offers and the number of equipments it has on board, Mahindra XUV500 price is very lucratively positioned. For more details on the accessories available on the XUV500 you can visit the Mahindra XUV500 dealers in your city.

Mahindra XUV500 (2015 - 2018) Engine & Transmission

Mechanically there are no changes; hence the SUV remains untouched on that front. XUV500 is driven by the muscular 2.2 litre, mHawk diesel powertrain bestowed with the 5th generation variable

geometry turbocharger. The athletic engine yields maximum power output of 140 Bhp at 3750 RPM along with 330 Nm of top torque between 1600 to 2800 RPM. Mahindra XUV500 transmission used with the diesel motor is a six-speed synchromesh manual transmission.Mahindra XUV500 (2015 - 2018) Engine & Transmission
There is also an option for an all wheel drive system available in the W8 and W10 variants, otherwise the trims come affixed with a front wheel drive system. Nothing significant has been altered in terms of mechanical functioning except for the slight modification in the final gearing of the manual tranny. Mahindra XUV500 Vs Nissan Terrano- versus one of the desirable options in this price range, XUV500 houses a much powerful engine that promises to engender higher power and torque output.Mahindra XUV500 (2015 - 2018) Engine & Transmission

Mahindra XUV500 (2015 - 2018) Mileage

Powered by the 2.2 litre mHawk diesel powerplant in conjunction with the six-speed manual transmission is decent enough if not very impressive. ARAI certified fuel economy delivered by this version of XUV500 SUV is 16 kms in a litre which is decent enough. In comparison to the previous model, the fuel economy has improved slightly, it now up by 0.9 kmpl.

Mahindra XUV500 (2015 - 2018) Braking and Safety

Braking system is constituted by disc brakes affixed in front as well as rear. Other than this, the SUV also gets pivotal braking features such as anti-lock-braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution. Among the safety features the SUV may not feature a string of safety fitments but it comes equipped with a few prominent safety features like dual airbags for driver and passenger, side curtain airbags, electronic stability program with rollover mitigation, hill hold and hill descent control, side impact beams and crumple zones for crash protection.

Mahindra XUV500 (2015 - 2018) Performance and Handling

Since there have been no tweaks in the mechanical department, therefore there is no vital change in this department. This also clarifies that there is still room for improvement in the way XUV500 handles. Had there been a prominent revamp in the steering, dampers, springs and anti-roll bars things would have changed upside down for XUV500. However we can’t say that there has been

absolutely no change in terms of performance, the SUV did feel more responsive specifically at high speeds, but there is still a large scope for improvement.
