Mahindra SsangYong Tivoli Preview

Ssangyong, the famous SUV brand from Korea is now owned by Mahindra and Mahindra and the Tivoli is the first product conceived after the acquisition from the Indian SUV manufacturer. Previewed as the Ssangyong X100 last year, and now renamed Tivioli, has been showcased in the home country for the first time and will make its international debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

Mahindra SsangYong Tivoli Exterior

Ssangyong like Hyundai, the other Korean car major, has opted for a new design language called 'Nature Born- 3 Motion' and the Tivoli is the first car from their stable to benefit from it. The front of the car is characterized by its slim-line grille, flanked by upswept headlights replete with LED daytime running lights. Moving on to the rear, the tail lamps feature a clear housing with an inverted ‘L’ motif.A centrally-mounted rear fog lamp and a contoured rear bumper further adds to the muscular outlook, especially when viewed from the rear three-quarter angle. The rather thick C-pillars are supposedly Ssayngong's way of depicting themselves as the strong, powerful brand. The 18-inch alloys are available with a diamond cut finish.Moving to the inside of the car, the upholstery is three toned - black, beige and red. The central console comes with a seven-inch infotainment system that boasts of a smartphone compatibility, a reverse camera as well as MP3, WAV, WMA, FLAC and APE connectivity. The interiors are well laid out and makes the SUV looks spacious enough.

As for safety features, it comes with a smart key entry and locking system, front and rear parking sensors and dual-zone air-conditioning feature as standard. ESP, seven airbags, seat belts with dual pre-tensioners and a tyre pressure monitoring system are offered as standard. And so does the Smart Steer system that offers three driving modes – Normal, Comfort and Sport.

Mahindra SsangYong Tivoli Engine & Transmission

The downside is in the form of the engine. Only a 1.6 litre e-XGi160 four-cylinder petrol engine is offered. The unit is capable of producing 126 hp of peak power and 157 Nm of torque, coupled to either a six-speed manual gearbox as standard or an Aisin six-speed automatic which sends power to the front wheels. A diesel engine and an all-wheel drive system is expected to debut in Europe.
