The K10 version of Alto is way better than the 800 version. It is true that the K10 version is expensive than 800 but it is worth paying couple of extra grands to get whole new of a better car than to settle for a piece of waste. However the only problem that I feel is the shock absorbers, which...

  • Overview Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Overview

Alto K10 is basically a more upmarket version of the country's largest selling car Maruti Suzuki Alto , which was launched in 2006. Despite being better than the Alto, the car couldn't do as good as the company expected it to do. The engine power, fuel efficiency, drivability and pricing make Alto K10 an easy winner. There are two variants of the K10 available in the market – the Maruti Alto K10 LXi (Rs.3.03 lac) and Maruti Alto K10 VXi (Rs.3.16 lac). Powered with three 1-litre, 998 cc cylinders, the Alto K10 delivers an impressive power and fuel efficiency.
    Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Overview
Its K-series engine produces a peak power of 68 PS at 6200 rpm and the maximum torque of 90Nm at 3500 rpm. Coupled with a five-speed cable type manual transmission, the power is transmitted to the front wheels of the car. It returns an impressive mileage of 20.2 kmpl. The overall design of the Alto K10 gets a mild re-treatment with new headlights, front fog lamps, body-coloured bumper, tail lights, tailgate and wheels with full covers. From certain angles, the car resembles more like the old Maruti Zen.
    Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Overview
The interiors of the Alto K10 are simple yet stylish. The new blue-coloured seats are well integrated with headrest. The other rich features include a climate control unit with heater, front power window, electric tripmeter with tachometer, illumining instrument cluster with speedometer, vanity mirror, sun visor, ash tray, accessory socket, cup holder, rear parcel tray and more. It doesn’t come with a stereo system, but has an installation option. With good leg, head and shoulder room, the Alto K10 is just alright in terms of comfort, as you cannot expect much from a car coming at this price.
  • Exterior Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Exterior

With mild cosmetic changes, the new Alto K10 shares great resemblance with its siblings – Maruti Alto and Maruti Zen. With a total dimension of 3620 mm (length) x 1495 mm (width) x 1460 mm (height), the car looks very compact yet very spacious from the inside. The wheelbase is 2360 mm. The new headlights,body-coloured bumper, extended snout and stylish front fog lamps enhance the front fascia of car. Now, the badge is significantly highlighted on its front side.
    Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Exterior
The wheels of its top-end variant get full covers, whereas the K10 LXi comes with only a centre cap. Its 13-inch tubeless tryes contribute to its stability and ride quality. The 155/65R13 size of tyres is used for both the variants. The redesigned rear instantly feels like the old Zen.
    Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Exterior
The new tail lights, tailgate with wedge and rear bumper have maintained the aesthetic feel of the car. Both the variants Lxi and VXi carry total kerb weight of 760 kg and 765 kg, respectively. The car is available in six attractive colors – Fire Brick Red, Midnight Black, Sunlight Copper, Ecru Beige, Silky Silver and Superior White.
  • Interior Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Interior

In terms of the comfort and rich features offered, the interior of the new Alto K10 is far better than its sibling. The power windows are only on its front side. One can easily adjust the ORVMs from inside. Now, the steering wheel is more stylish but less responsive. The new blue seats are comfortable with integrated headrests, like Hyundai i10. However, the plastic quality is still cheap. For an average Indian height, the ingress/ egress is perfect but tall people could find it congested.
    Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Interior
There is no provision of an audio system. One can get it installed from the market. The overall ambience of cabin is maintained by various standard features, including a climate control unit with heater, front power window, electric trip-meter with tachometer, illumining instrument cluster with speedometer, vanity mirror, sun visor, ash tray, accessory socket, cup holder, rear parcel tray, accessory socket, tinted window glass, etc.

  • Engine & Transmission Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Engine & Transmission

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Engine & Transmission

This compact hatchback is configured with the 1-litre, three-cylinder, petrol engine that develops a peak power of 68 PS at 6200 rpm and 90 Nm of peak torque at 3500 rpm. It offers a displacement of 998 cc. The K10 engine is mated with a five-speed cable type manual transmission and meets the BSIV emission norms. Being made of aluminium, its engine is very lightweight.
On the fuel efficiency front, this engine is an outstanding performer in this segment. It delivers an ARAI rated mileage of 20.2 kmpl. Maruti Alto K10 is proficient enough to reach 100 kmph from standby within 14-15 seconds. Carrying the ELV (End-of-Life Vehicles) certification, Alto K10 is an eco-friendly car that ensures the high level of raw material recycling.
  • Mileage Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Mileage

    Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Mileage

The Alto K10 leads the race when it comes to mileage. This hatchback comes with more refined K10B petrol engine that churns out a maximum power of 68 PS at 6200 rpm and a peak torque of 90 Nm at 3500 rpm. This upgraded engine makes the Alto K10 one of the most fuel efficient cars in this segment. It delivers an impressive fuel efficiency of 20.2 kmpl on highways, while that of 15-16 kmpl in the city.
  • Braking and Safety Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Braking and Safety

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Braking and Safety

The braking system is very basic, but proficient enough to provide good control. The front and rear wheels have ventilated disc brakes and drum brakes, respectively. Tyres are relatively small, and don’t have any active role in maintaining the balance and stability of the car. All standard safety features are available with its both variants, which include seat belts, child lock, front fog lamps, headlights, engine immobilizer, i-CATS, central locking key off reminder, suspension and braking system. However, the advanced ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and EBD safety measures are missing from the board.
  • Performance and Handling Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Performance and Handling

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Performance and Handling

The handling and ride quality of the Alto K10 is decent. Its powerful front McPherson Strut suspension with torsion type roll control device and rear coil spring, gas filled shock absorbers with three-link axle, and isolated trailing arm suspension with isolated trailing arm make driving a breeze, even on busy roads or streets. However, its high speed performance isn’t impressive. The ground clearance is 160 mm, which helps the car improve drivability on the bumpy Indian roads. Boosted with a three-cylinder engine, Alto K10 offers an amazing driving experience with low NVH levels. One can enjoy sharp turns with Alto K10 that comes with minimum turning radius of 4.6m.
  • What we think What do we think about Maruti Suzuki Alto K10?

With a decent cosmetic makeover and configured with more powerful engine, the new Alto K10 is a good value-for-money product. The K10B engine is a far better performer than Maruti’s old 796 cc engine. From the inside, the car gives you a sense of comfort, which comes with good numbers of features and rich upholstery.
  • Competitors Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Competitors

Maruti Alto K10 vs Hyundai Eon

The Eon is a stylish and sporty hatchback from Hyundai. With excellent build quality and finishing, it easily grabs attention. Interiors of the Eon are impressive with good plastic quality, a long list of features and comfortable seats. On the other hand, being an upmarket version of the Alto, the Alto K10 looks no exceptional from outside, though it’s certainly better than the old Alto. However, spaciousness of the cabin goes in its favour.

Boosted with an 814 cc, three-cylinder petrol engine, the Eon produces a maximum power of 56 bhp at 5500 rpm and a peak torque of 76 Nm at 4000 rpm. With low-end torque, it delivers a great driving pleasure on urban roads, but disappoints on highways. The Maruti Alto K10 is power-packed with the advanced K-series engine, which delivers a peak power of 67 bhp at 6200 rpm and the maximum torque of 90 Nm at 3500 rpm. The tuned suspension and braking system enhance the overall handling of the car. One can enjoy the drive and performance of Alto K10 even on busy city roads. If we talk about the fuel efficiency, the Eon takes the lead with a mileage of 21.1 kmpl, whereas the Alto K10 offers a mileage of 20.2 kmpl.

The comfort, features and driving pleasure offered by Alto K10 make it the perfect choice. Equipped with lots of bells and whistles, the Hyundai Eon is a good value-for-money product. In terms of pricing, there’s not much difference between the two. But the sales service, low maintenance and much better ride quality of the Alto K10 make it a clear winner.
