Hyundai i20 was considered to be a pretty good looking vehicle but in front of Baleno, it looks quite simple. However, this being said, Hyundai i20 looks quite sharp and has a more spirited presence on the road. In terms of engine, Hyundai i20 has a 1.4litre CRDi mill with 6 speed manual transmission while Baleno has 1248cc engine with a 5 speed manual transmission. The Baleno diesel engine is very efficient as well as smooth but the ride quality of the car is neutral due to the stiff suspension system. Hyundai engine on the other hand has an excellent refinement and decent fuel economy but the highway performance of the car is just decent. Mileage offered by Baleno diesel is 27.39kmpl whereas Hyundai i20 can deliver is 19.84kmpl.
In terms of features Baleno Delta gets dual airbags and ABS which are a standard across the Baleno variants whereas Hyundai Elite i20 Magna gets dual airbags but no ABS with EBD. Some features of Baleno Delta diesel include an audio system with Bluetooth, Aux-In and USB compatibility, steering mounted audio control, electrically foldable ORVMs, automatic AC, front disc brakes, reverse parking sensors, rear wiper and washer along with rear defogger. Hyundai Elite i20 Magna on the other hand gets 2Din integrated audio system with aux and USB ports along with Bluetooth connectivity and steering wheel mounted audio controls. Unlike Baleno, i20 gets a manual AC in this variant. There is no rear wiper and washer in the i20 Magna either.
So overall if we see then Baleno Delta which is priced at Rs. 7.03 lakhs seems to be a better package than Hyundai Elite i20 Magna which is priced at Rs. 6.18 lakhs, prices are ex-showroom New Delhi. The extra cost is for certain extra features. Also, though you end up paying more for Baleno but the aftersale service and maintainance costs for the vehicle aren’t too high, also the running cost of Baleno would end up being lesser if the car is driven with car and maintained properly. Therefore, in my opinion you should go in for the Baleno but you must test drive the vehicles before making your decision.
