My Maruti Suzuki Baleno Zeta 1.2 delivers a mileage of 14 kmpl but company claims it to be 21 kmpl, why there is difference?

There is difference in mileage because the mileage claimed by the company is ARAI certified mileage not the real world mileage. The ARAI certified mileage figures of cars are usually the best possible mileage that a car can deliver on Indian roads, hence the most car buyers who buy a car assuming that it will deliver the same mileage as certified by the ARAI get disappointed as the ARAI is not the mileage that a car delivers under the normal road conditions. ARAI mileage test is done under standard testing conditions which are far different from real world conditions and doesn’t include variable conditions like idling at traffic lights, starting and stopping, driving style, air conditioning, different weather, road conditions and moreover all tests conducted on brand new cars, thereby adding more to its fuel efficiency.
