Maruti Suzuki Celerio Overview

The new compact car Maruti Suzuki Celerio follows Maruti Suzuki's modus operandi of making cars that are reliable and practical, compact yet roomy. Maruti Suzuki has also kept the design of this car safe and clean so that it doesn't raise any eyebrows.
Maruti Suzuki Celerio Overview

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Exterior

The latest product from Maruti is in a completely different territory as compared to its predecessors A-star and Estilo. Based on the A-Wind concept, which was displayed at the Thailand Motor Show, the hatch gets an eye-catching design. Overall, the Celerio has a tall boy design, which helps in easy ingress and egress.
Maruti Suzuki Celerio Exterior
The front of the car is dressed up with flowing back-shaped headlamp cluster, a large headlight unit with separate barrels for the parking light. The headlights come up with good luminance. The larger air dam with horizontal bars merges with the grill. The curvy front facade flaunts two chrome strips running along the grill decently.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Interior

Maruti Celerio gets a dual tone interior design with Indian favourite beige being one of the shades. Inside the vehicle gets characteristic Suzuki traits and parts that can be found on the other models of the Japanese carmaker. The large 2425mm wheelbase offers spacious cabin with extra headroom, legroom and shoulder room. Moreover, passengers get 15 smart utility spaces for putting small bags like bottles, magazines, phones and others.

When compared to A-Star and Estilo, this hatchback offer more upmarket and better quality interiors. The seats have better cushioning and offers comfortable seating to passengers. The rear seats come with the option of 60:40 split flexibility to increase luggage capacity. That is what we call XpanDesign. The flowing curves of the dashboard and the way it merges with the rest of the interiors give the cabin a premium feel. All of it comes together to create a space thats perfect for you and your family to settle into and enjoy the drive.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Engine & Transmission

The Maruti hatch gets a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder K-Series petrol mill, which is capable of delivering the max power of 67 bhp and 90 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to five-speed manual transmission while the automatic transmission gets four speed options. The EZ Drive of Maruti is considerably the major highlight of the model. The advance K-Next engine combined with the drive by wire serves better torque delivery and a whooping fuel economy.
The peppier drive is supported by the EZ technology and an innovative transmission fitted inside the car. The auto gearshift, also termed as automated manual transmission, is an incredible technology used within the new hatch. It ultimately gives the feel of an automatic transmission vehicle and provides better comfort with the gear shift. Basically, the hydraulic system imbibed in the car allows shifting gears without using a clutch and this can be done either sequentially or fully automatically.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Mileage

Maruti Celerio delivers an impressive mileage of 23.1 kmpl, which is certainly commendable given the market it takes on. Such fuel-efficient hatch is definitely going to be a hit among the Indian buyers. In terms of economy, it is the Celerio that stretches each litre of petrol to the furthest. The new automatic hatch is more fuel efficient with an increase of over 5 percent of the total fuel efficiency than its regular manual version. With this, Maruti brings an amazing hatch, which is going to show tough times to other brands in the segment.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Braking and Safety

The hatch comes clubbed with the EZ Drive in it, which makes driving the vehicle easy. The EZ technology in the car assures a ride that is hassle free, especially while riding in heavy traffic conditions. The braking system comprises of front and rear drum brakes, which enables immediate braking action. Maruti Celerio is much more safer than the existing A-Star, as the car is bigger in size. The tall boy design gives high driving position, which helps in better upright view of the road. The electronic power steering helps in easy manoeuvering of the vehicle with shorter turning radius. High strength steel side impact beams ensure protection at the doors in case of any side impact. The top-of-the=-line variant boosts dual airbags - one for the driver and the other for the co-passenger.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Performance and Handling

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio has only one engine option – a 998 cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine that puts out a modest power of 67 bhp. The power output might sound underwhelming but it is more than sufficient for city commutes and daily drives, essentially the type of driving that this car is designed for. Maruti Suzuki has taken the old K10 engine out of the Alto and made a whole bunch of modifications to it. The resultant of all that work is the K10B engine and it is a significant improvement over its predecessor. This engine has good power and is reasonably silent at the lower end of the rev range, but at higher revs, it does get rather loud. The aspect of the car with the highest amount of hype surrounding it is the new 5-speed automated manual transmission, which Maruti Suzuki refers to as “EZ Drive.” This gearbox can be thought of as a regular automatic gearbox, in the sense that there is no clutch pedal and the selector lever looks very similar to a conventional automatic transmission; however, it differs because it uses electronically-controlled hydraulic actuators to shift up and down through gears. This provides for effortless driving and no matter how jammed up the roads are, you can navigate through them like a breeze.

What do we think about Maruti Suzuki Celerio?

Maruti Celerio is a welcome break from the mundane and offers a very practical automatic gear-shifting option in the budget segment. It isn’t an automatic in the true sense but offers similar levels of convenience.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Competitors

After receiving a facelift in 2012, Ford Figo looks even more stylish and has many new types of equipment installed in its interior. So, one can definitely keep it as an option. The i10 may not be as spacious as the Celerio and offers few equipment inside; however, it is definitely a fun car to drive and if you can extend your budget, you might also get your hand on the new Hyundai Grand i10, which is packed with lots of interesting features and an impressive engine.
