The cheapest entry level sedan with an automatic transmission is the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire. The VXi petrol automatic variant is priced at Rs. 6.83 lakhs and the VXi (O) automatic variant is priced at Rs. 7.03 lakhs. The diesel automatic Dzire is priced at Rs. 8.58 lakhs; all prices are ex-showroom at New Delhi. While considering maintenance costs, mileage and resale value, Maruti is always a great deal because of its wide spread service network, reasonably priced spare wheel cost and an effeciency that makes day to day driving costs quite low etc. The mileage of petrol automatic is around 18.5 kmpl and of the diesel automatic can manage around 26.59 kmpl.

The others available in this segment include Honda Amaze S and Honda Amaze VX which comes with 1.2litre petrol engine that is mated with a 5 speed automatic transmission. The price of the Honda Amaze S is Rs. 7.35 lakhs while the Honda Amaze VX is priced at Rs. 8.35 lakhs. The mileage of these vehicles is around 18.1 kmpl. Next is in line is Maruti Ciaz which isn’t really an entry level sedan but it is decently priced and comes with a 4 speed automatic transmission in its VXi and ZXi variants that cost Rs. 9.29 lakhs and Rs. 9.94 lakhs respectively. You can also consider the Hyundai Xcent SX (O) priced at Rs. 7.58 lakhs and Tata Zest XMA which is priced at Rs. 7.25 lakhs.
Amongst all of them, in my opnion Dzire is your best option because it’s nearly maintenance free and is very easy on pocket. While Honda Amaze has excellent space and smooth ride, the maintenance of the vehicle can cost you a bit more than Dzire.
