Maruti Suzuki Wagon R MPV Overview

A seven seater concept of the Wagon R was showcased at the Indonesia International show in 2013 and it is expected that the MPV would borrow cues from the concept. Wagon R has been one of the most successful car from the house of Maruti based on tall boy design. The concept showcased at the international expo had sizeable glass area between C and D pillars that showed the length of the car had been increased to accommodate the third row.
Accommodating another row of seats would probably make the car longer than the existing hatch but the MPV would most likely be sub-four meter in length to avail the tax benefit and would carry most of the design from the existing hatch. From the WagonR MPV images, it looks like the boot space is likely to remain limited due to shorter length but at expense of third row, the car should offer great luggage space. The Wagon R MPV features would not be too far apart from what the smaller hatch would offer. The interior space for first and second row of passengers is most likely to be the same and dash layout too is very unlikely to change. However, it’s expected that Wagon R MPV interiors might offer updated music system of navigation system as options with the higher variants.

Wagon R MPV Engine & Transmission

The Wagon R hatch is powered by a K10B all aluminium 1 litre petrol engine that develops about 68Ps of peak power at 6200rpm and 90Nm of peak torque at 3500rpm. Maruti would most likely put a higher capacity petrol and diesel motor from the Swift that develops substantially more power. The state of tune of engines is unlikely to change and the 1.2 litre petrol would most likely develop 84Ps at 6000rpm of power and 115Nm of peak torque at 4000rpm, while the 1.3 litre diesel would develop about 75Ps of power at 4000rpm and 190Nm of torque at 2000rpm. The transmission is likely to remain the same i.e. five-speed manual which would drive front wheels via transversely mounted engine.

Wagon R MPV Expected Mileage

Wagon R MPV mileage would likely be less than what the hatchback version has to offer, with the higher capacity engines that the car would employ, you can expect mileage of 17-19kmpl from petrol while the diesel should offer about 21-23kmpl.

Wagon R MPV Expected Price

The car would be a direct competitor to the Datsun Go+ MPV in the economy MPV section and it’s expected that the Wagon R MPV price in India would be in the 4-6 lac bracket. The Wagon R MPV variants would most likely be based on the terminology that the current range of cars use.

Wagon R MPV Expected launch date

The Wagon R MPV 2016 would most be unveiled at the AutoExpo 2016 but would most likely go into production in the later part of the year and would be offered around November 2016-January 2017.
