Benz GLA 200 CDI Sport is an alter ego of the 200 Sport petrol variant except for the only difference of a diesel powertrain. A 2.2 litre, diesel powertrain is fitted under the hood which works in symbioses with a 7G-DCT automatic gearbox. For a prudent off-road and on-road experience, Mercedes Benz India has equipped a handful of features enhancing driving dynamics of the SUV such as ESP, STEER CONTROL tuned to off-road suspension, cruise control with ‘SPEEDTRONIC’ variable speed limiter and off-road comfort suspension with higher ground clearance.

  In the front, radiator grille gets two silver painted louvers and chrome inserts. Radiator grille is flanked by the LED head lights which come with dynamic headlamp range adjustment, integrated daytime running lights, parking lights and LED side lights. On the outside a lot of chrome work can be seen like beltline trim in chrome, underguard matt silver chrome in front and rear bumpers, load sill guard in chrome and twin-pipe exhaust system with chrome-plated tailpipe trim elements integrated into the bumper. Body coloured outside rear view mirrors get integrated LED turn indicators, the ORVMs can be folded and adjusted electrically. The ORVMs also feature heated function and driver’s side ORVM gets exclusive auto dimming function. Rear highlights LED tail lights and body coloured bumpers feature LED rear fog lights. Apart from the above mentioned features, exteriors also get roof spoiler with integral third LED brake light and built-in aerial systems, andonised aluminium roof rails and tinted glass green all-round including rear window in single-layer safety glass.

  Seats are draped in sahara beige/black ARTICO upholstery which matches well with the silver wave-look trim. Leather wrapped three spoke steering wheel gets 12 control buttons and shift paddles. A 8 inch colour display is equipped on the instrument cluster, air outlets with silver chrome accents, ambient lighting with indirect illumination of the door pulls/door openers at front and rear, door armrest with silver chrome trim and contrasting topstitching and door centre panels in ARTICO leather with contrasting topstitching, footwell lighting in the front and rear and free standing central media display with high-gloss black finish  are some of the interior features offered on the variant. From the comfort section features such as 12 V socket in rear, 4-way lumbar support for driver and co-passenger seats, armrest on centre console, automatic rain closing features in conjunction with panoramic sliding sunroof, ECO start/stop, electric parking brake, electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, rear armrest with cup holder, reversing camera, stowage compartment in centre console and doors, trip computer in multifunction have been incorporated. In-Car entertainment  brags a central media display with 14.7 cm screen diagonal, Harman Kardon logic 7 surround sound system, infotainment system, Bluetooth connectivity, USB port and  radio aerial integrated into the rear spoiler and a few others.

  Generating power is a 2.2 litre, four cylinder, in-line diesel engine propagating zenith power output of 100 KW between 3600 RPM to 4400 RPM along with top torque of 300 Nm between 1600 to 3000 RPM. A 7G-DCT 7 speed dual clutch gearbox works in alliance with the diesel powerplant.

  The diesel powered variant of GLA SUV is capable of returning 17.9 kms in a litre.

  Ventilated disc brakes are fitted in front and rear, presence of preeminent braking features such as adaptive brake lights, adaptive brake with anti-lock-braking system and brake assist further bolsters the braking system in the SUV.  Other vital safety equipment inset for safety of occupants include acceleration skid control, electronic stability control, airbags, ISOFIX child seat attachment points, central locking, engine immobilizer, hill start assist and HOLD function, attention assist, automatic locking doors with emergency opening and programmable remote key among a few others.

  The GLA 200 CDI Sport propels to 100 kmph from nil within 9.9 seconds and hits top speed mark of 205 kmph which is a tad less than the performance figures of petrol trim. The GLA 200 CDI handles well and at the same time offers an admirable ride quality.
