Mercedes-Benz has finally launched the all-new S-Class in India with a range of updates onboard. The most interesting part of this car is not the design or the features, but the engine itself as this is the first BS-IV emission compliant car in the country with an engine under the hood complying with the new stricter emission norm that is all set to be implemented across the country from April 2020. Also, this engine will be able to run on BS-IV compliant fuel, which certainly makes the car attractive.

Launched in both petrol and diesel engine options, the new S-Class comes available in two different variants that are S350d and S450 powered by a diesel and a petrol engine respectively. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the flagship sedan of the German luxury car manufacturer and since its introduction in India, the automaker has sold more than 6,700 units in the country. Now, with the new model launched, the number is expected to grow significantly. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class comes carrying a range of advanced technologies. Also, it gets a wide range of high-end premium features ensuring the best possible comfort for the occupants. In terms of design, the sedan looks very elegant at exterior and inside the cabin as well. Mercedes-Benz left no stones unturned in making the car very appealing looking for the occupants. Priced between Rs. 1.33 crore and Rs. 1.37 crore (ex-showroom, New Delhi), the all-new 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class certainly comes with the promise to continue the model’s long-standing reputation.

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class gets a very suave appearance. It gets a large front grille with shiny black look along with sharp headlamps with highly powerful LED projector lamps and integrated LED daytime running lights that not only provide great illumination, but adds style as well. The front bumper comes with a wide black slated look and there is a thin chrome trim as well.

At the side profile, 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class comes bearing a fluid look that certainly gives it aerodynamic efficiency. Clearly, the sedan follows the German luxury car brand’s strategy to emphasize on aerodynamic efficiency with less character lines. It runs on large and stylish alloy wheels, while there is a sleek chrome trim highlighting the door sills. A nicely curved roofline, blackened glass area, LED turn indicator integrated ORVMs add further style to the car. The roof gets a glossy black paint scheme adding zing to the sedan and there is a panoramic sunroof as well. At the back, there are fluid looking LED taillights and a sculpted tailgate as well.

Inside the cabin, 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class gets a revised multifunction steering wheel with a range of control buttons mounted on it. The fully digital instrument cluster and a large touchscreen infotainment system are there with a look that make it appear like a single unit. Apart from that, the touchpad at the lower centre console, circular AC vents on the dashboard are there. The steering wheel, dashboard, seats and upholstery come wrapped with high-quality premium leather. In terms of space and comfort, Mercedes-Benz S-Class comes offering a lounge like feel. The panoramic sunroof gives a very airy feel inside the cabin. The rear occupants get a plush seat.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Engine & Transmission

2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel variant of the car S350d comes powered by a 3.0-litre V6 engine that churns out 282 bhp of peak power and 600 Nm of peak torque. The petrol powered model S450 comes powered by a 3.0-litre V6 engine that pumps out 362 bhp of peak power and 500 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duty is done by a 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox. Both the engines come complying with BS-VI emission norm.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class petrol variant comes returning 7 kmpl of fuel efficiency, while the diesel model offers 13 kmpl of mileage.

For braking duty, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class uses highly efficient disc brakes on both front and rear wheels. On the safety front, Mercedes-Benz S-Class comes equipped with 8 airbags, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Program, Hill Hold Control, Traction Control System, engine immobilizer, speed sensing door lock etc. Also, it gets driving aiding technologies as part of the semi-autonomous driving system.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class diesel variant is capable of accelerating 0-100 kmph in 6 seconds, while the petrol variant is capable of reaching 100 kmph from standstill position in 5.1 seconds. In terms of handling, the new S-Class has seen pretty good improvement. The car comes with better stability in high-speed run, better cornering ability.
