MG Motor, a wholly owned subsidiary of SAIC is gearing up for its official entry into the Indian car market. In line with the current trend in the country, MV Motor is planning to launch a premium SUV, expected to be named GS, the compact SUV will stack up against rivals such as Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass in the segment. Essentially a soft-roader, the MG GS price in India is estimated to carry a price tag of Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom).

The MG GS images give a clear insight into its styling. Featuring sharp lines all over the body, the compact SUV has a robust semblance. It measures 4,500 mm long, 1,855 mm wide and 1,665 mm high. Interestingly, MG GS is slightly larger than its rivals Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass. MG Motors could make changes to its exterior styling keeping with the Indian market. As for the Mg GS colour options, the SUV will be offered in multiple shades.

Built on a long wheelbase and boasting large dimensions, the MG GS is expected to offer ample space inside the cabin. It is however likely to receive radical changes in a bid to make the cabin more stylish as against the UK-spec model. Talking of the MG GS features list, there could an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an automatic climate control, power-operated seats with reclining features, sun roof, leather seat upholstery and a bunch of other tech.

The MG GS SUV is available in two petrol and a diesel engine in the UK market. Keeping with the demand for diesel engines in the Indian market, the model could be offered only with the diesel engine. That said, the MG GS specifications for the Indian market could include the 2.0-litre oil burner.

The company is yet to reveal specification details for the India-spec model, therefore it is a bit pre-mature to comment on the estimated mileage for the upcoming MG SUV.

Coming to the safety feature list, the MG GS SUV is likely to get multiple airbags, anti-lock-braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, stability control system traction control, hill start assist system and a host of others.

Likely to be powered by a high displacing 2.0L diesel engine, the MG GS is expected to deliver punchy performance, however a clear view could be given only after the test drives are conducted prior to launch.

The premium SUV from MG Motor is expected to feature a five-seat layout inside the cabin. While we expect MG GS to offer ample space to the occupants, it could also offer spacious cargo space for storing luggage.

The premium SUV space is increasing in size, all thanks to the rising popularity of SUVs in India. Talking about the upcoming MG GS SUV, it will lock horns with Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass in the segment.
