Mini Cooper S Overview

Petrol powered Mini Cooper S is sportier than its diesel avatar and offers more punch. Conceived on the new UKL platform Mini Cooper S possesses boastful dimensions, the hatchback is 98 mm longer, 44 mm wider and 7 mm taller. Exterior variations like restyled honeycomb grille with S badge, large sporty air intakes and large twin exhausts point differ S trim from its diesel variant. Interiors too get modifications such as a more conventional speedometer placed in the front of the steering wheel which gets rev counter and fuel gauge either side. The electric window switches and door lock toggles have been replaced from centre stack to the doorpad. Black chequered finish on the dashboard, leather steering wheel, sporty seats are some of the other additions petrol version dons. Boot is though larger than before but it still not as spacious. One of the most prominent changes made to the hatch is the higher displacement 2.0 litre gasoline engine which is 400cc larger than the outgoing engine, yet the new powertrain is lighter than the previous engine. The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox and drive is sent to the front wheels. Performance is bang on all thanks to the efficient petrol motor, handling too is spot on. Currently the hatchback is available only in three door version, Mini Cooper S price in India is Rs 34.65 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi, please note that the price is subject to change), which in comparison to its diesel trim is Rs 2 lakh more. Mini Cooper S Exterior

Mini Cooper S pictures given below show that the hatchback has received few modification varying it from its diesel avatar. Up front, bi-xenon head lights flank the bold chrome radiator grille, fog lights are provided in front as well as rear. Side profile features body coloured electrically adjustable and foldable outside rear view mirrors. Alloys are also fitted to all four wheels rendering a neat look to the exteriors. Chrome garnish, rain window wiper, rear window washer, rear window defogger, power antenna, tinted glass and rear spoiler sum up the fitments bestowed on the outside.

Mini Cooper S Interior

Cabin gets leather seats, leather wrapped steering wheel and a handful of other interior features such as air conditioner with heater, adjustable steering column, tachometer, electronic c multi-tripmeter, glove compartment, digital clock, outside temperature display, cigarette lighter, digital odometer and height adjuster for driver’s seat. Comfort features aboard includes power steering, power windows in front, automatic climate control, air quality control, remote trunk opener, remote fuel lid opener, low fuel warning light, accessory power outlet, vanity mirror, rear seat head rests, cup holders in front, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, rear parking sensors and bench folding rear seat.

Mini Cooper S Engine & Transmission

The previous engine has been replaced by the 2.0 litre, four cylinder, petrol engine which is 400cc larger than the outgoing motor. The petrol engine is capable of propagating top power and torque output of 189 Bhp and 28.8 kgm of torque at 1250 RPM. Mini Cooper S transmission is a six-speed automatic transmission which transmits drive to front wheels.

Fuel economy delivered by the 2.0 litre petrol engine is 12.6 kmpl in city conditions and 18.2 kmpl on highway.

Disc brakes are equipped in front and rear, besides this, anti-lock-braking system along with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist have also been incorporated in the variant. Safety equipment such as central locking, power door locks. Anti-theft alarm, driver airbag, passenger airbag, rear seat belts, seat belt warning, door ajar warning, side impact beams, front impact beams, traction control, keyless entry, tyre pressure monitor, vehicle stability control system, engine immobilizer, crash sensor, centrally mounted fuel tank, clutch lock, cornering brake control warning triangle with first aid kit and 3 point seat belt on all seats and anti-theft device.

Mini Cooper S Performance and Handling

The petrol engine enables the hatch to accelerate from stand still to ton (in terms of speed) within 6.7 seconds and attains top speed of 230 Kmph. Handling is one of the positives of the hatchback, the grip as well as balance both are in unison which in turn makes the hatchback a good handler.
