Renault Fluence (2014-2017) Overview

Renault S.A. (Soci?t? Anonyme) Is a French multinational automobile manufacturer established in 1899. Headquartered in Boulogne-Billancourt, Renault has an alliance with Nissan that makes up the Franco-Japanese conglomerate, Renault-Nissan. Renault's core market is Europe and it is known for its role in Formula 1.

Renault had earlier entered India through a Joint Venture with Mahindra and Mahindra to produce Logan in 2005 but later the partnership ended. This is Renault’s Phase 2.0 in India and the French automotive giant has already lined up huge plans for the market here. The all-new Renault Fluence has finally been launched in India after it was first unveiled in the 2010 Delhi Auto Show. Renault Fluence is the newest addition in the D-segment that has not seen much growth in the last few years as more cars were introduced in the C and premium D/entry E-segments due to lack of new players. Renault Fluence is available both in Diesel and Petrol variants. For the first time in India, the pricing of the Diesel variant of the Fluence is cheaper than the Petrol variant. Since Diesel is the preferred choice of many, is trying to boost the sale of its Diesel variant by keeping a lower price tag on it. Revealed at the 2012 Istanbul Motor Show, New Renault Fluence is a sedan positioned between the compact family vehicle segment and upper-mid range segment. This model now features Renault’s new styling identity and incorporates LED daytime running lights which contribute to its dynamic, modern look. With a boot capacity of 530 litres and a wide wheelbase, it is practical, comfortable and built for all uses. Renault Fluence is a vehicle with strong international potential. It is currently built at the plants in Busan (South Korea), Bursa (Turkey), Moscow (Russia) and Cordoba (Argentina) as well as at the Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Chennai (India). Note that front end may differ depending on the market and production site. Renault Fluence is based on the Renault/Nissan C platform but it is sized between the compact family saloon C-segment and the upper-medium segment D-segment. The model comes with two Petrol engines: a 1.6-liter 110 hp (82 kW) and a 2-liter 140 hp (104 kW) that can get an optional CVT. The diesel variant is equipped with a 1.5-liter dCi engine, offered in 85, 90, 105 and 110 hp (82 kW) versions, fitted with Diesel particulate filter, and with the 110 hp (82 kW) version fitted to Renault's new dual clutch transmission, called DCT. A Renault Sports version has been offered in Brazil, named Fluence GT, using a 2.0-liter 180 hp (134 kW) named Renault TCe 180 associated with a 6-Speed Manual Gearbox. The Curb weight for 1.5-liter dCi starts from 1145 kg & gasoline engines 1.6-liter, 2-liter starts from 1056, 1080 kg. In 2012, the Renault Fluence was face-lifted during Istanbul Motor Show; with the new Renault corporate grille, standard Xenon headlights and a few minor changes.

Renault Fluence (2014-2017) Exterior

The Renault Fluence is a spectacular sight with its chic French styling. The stylish and fluid contour of the body definitely makes it look better than its rivals. Four colours are available in all variants of Renault Fluence – Ash Beige, Glacier White, Platinum and Pearl Black. The colours compliment the body contour and styling of this plush sedan. It can accommodate five passengers at a time including the driver. Dimensionally, the sedan is 4.62 m long, 1.82 m wide and 1.49 m high. The wheel base of the car is 2703mm and ground clearance of 170mm.

The Renault Fluence is a mid-size sedan that has a distinctive appearance. It consists of automatic headlamps and sharp grille boxes. The positioning of lamps in the headlamp cluster is quite impressive. The large rectangular lower grille attached to the round front fog lamps looks like a human’s smiling face. Adequate space for number plate is left between the small upper grille and the lower grille. Unlike most cars, the sedan has the same design for upper and lower grille but shapes are altogether different. The Renault logo finds its place at the tip of the nose. Renault Fluence is equipped with electrically powered ORVMs in body colour and has silver-finish door handles. The doors have embossed waistlines and have a wide opening to make entry and exit comfortable. The arched roof of the car underscores its dynamic image. The derri?re of the sedan is more domineering than the front one with large tail light cluster and an appealing boot gate. The tail lamp cluster is split across the tail side and trunk gate; the lights’ slots are enticingly leaf-shaped; there’s a Turn Signal Lamp on the outside rear-view mirror and the sedan has rear glass electric defrosting which makes it a safe and beautiful ride. The rear side is adorned with a compact roof antenna just above the rear glass. The car has a chrome-tipped single exhaust pipe. The Petrol variant of car is fitted with 2 Speed, Intermittent Rain Sensing front wipers. Fluence uses Valeo LED headlights that are angled according to the steering wheel position. An ingenious aspect of the Fluence's exterior design is its V-shaped derri?re that gives access to the trunk in an unconventional way; an articulated piston mounted in the centre of the trunk lid slides the back up into the roof.

What do we think about Renault Fluence (2014-2017)?

Renault Fluence is a plush sedan that offers the perfect blend of performance and luxury. It entered the Indian auto market in 2011 with its Petrol and Diesel versions. Renault recently launched the top-end Diesel version, Fluence E4 with the 1.5 dCi 110 engine and those who thought that the Diesel version lacked the features that were available on the E4 Petrol were in for a pleasant surprise. There is a strong tilt in the market in favour of Diesel cars and Renault has rightly read this pulse.
Keen attention has gone into deigning the cabin and the interiors which are pleasant to the eye. The soft touch dashboard is incredible and would lure potential buyers. Renault has made it as comfortable as possible and though like a passenger while designing it. With lumbar support for the driver, premium fabric upholstery, front arm rest with storage spaces, make Fluence a very pleasant ride. The sedan comes with 16" alloys which give a marvellous look to it. The superior suspension system makes driving a smooth experience. There is a rectangular lower grille along with the front fog lamp and adequate space between the number plate and the upper and lower grilles. Contrary to most cars, the upper and lower grilles of Fluence have the same design. There is a single exhaust pipe on the car that comes with a chrome tip. It is somewhere in between a sophisticated sedan and a sporty car in terms of looks. Renault Fluence (2014-2017) Competitors

Renault Fluence has competition stemming from some very established players like Toyoto Corolla Altis, Chevrolet Cruze and ?koda Laura. Fluence, with better power and torque figures than the Corolla Altis, offers better drivability especially on highways. On the flip side, it may slightly compromise on mileage. Also, the Fluence offers better handling compared to the Altis. Though the difference in their lengths is marginal, Fluence’s larger rear legroom is certainly a plus. As far as boot capacity is concerned, Renault Fluence’s 530 L boot scores over that of Toyota Altis which has a capacity of 475 L. Altis scores over Renault Fluence in terms of appearance and the interior quality.
In comparison to Chevrolet Cruze, Fluence with a torque yield of 240 Nm gets a severe beating. Cruze churns out 327 Nm torque and is much faster than Renault Fluence. In terms of space, Fluence is a clear winner owing to its larger dimensions. Fluence’s linear acceleration makes it better perfomer than Chevrolet Cruze as far as mileage goes. ?koda Laura is quite pragmatically priced and gives Fluence a tough competition. Its 2 L Diesel engine gives 139 bhp of power and yields 320 Nm torque which is far greater than what Fluence offers. Renault has smartly played with the dimensions of Fluence that outdoes Laura in terms of boot space and rear seat comfort.
