Premium car from Renault

Overall rating: 2.75 Reviewed By: Ved on 07 November 2017
Its quite sad to learn that the launch of the Captur has been delayed further. There are many who are waiting for the car eagerly, just like me. I did a little research on the car and the results amused me. It has a very urban appeal in its design and would look great on the road. The best thing about...  Read More »

Renault Captur Overview

Renault Captur India price has just been revealed and the Captur is Renault’s foray into premium SUV space. It would compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta and other big SUVs in this space and would be placed a cut above the Duster. You get a tried and tested package and a car that’s hugely capable. It isn’t without its flaws tough. And at this point, lack of automatic transmission keeps it from becoming a well-rounded package. At the moment, Renault Captur variants offered include - RXE RXL RXT Platine.

Renault Captur Exterior

The Renault Captur images reveal that it breaks the mould and looks nothing like a conventional SUV. The bulbous style reveals how much space it packs and large size should ideally have no trouble pulling in buyers looking for capacious SUV. Large headlamps at the front and gaping grille are the highlights of the SUV that make the car look modern.
Overall curvaceous body panels and smooth curves make the car look city-like. Diamond cut alloys, personalised packages further enhance the appeal. Renault Captur Colours on offer include Cayenne Orange, Mahogany Brown, Pearl White, Planet Grey and Moonlight Silver.

Renault Captur Interior

Renault Captur interiors uses soft-touch plastics on the inside along with leather seats that lend it a premium touch. The car can easily seat five in comfort and comfy seats ensure that passengers are comfortable. Interior comes equipped with a host of other features like Auto AC and Smart Access Card.
Music system offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for phone connectivity. Display touch-screen offers navigation system and ensures that you never get lost in the urban jungle, also, it doubles up as a display for rear-view camera and offers parking assistance.

Renault Captur Engine & Transmission

At present, the Captur offers only two engine option i.e. 1.5-litre diesel that develops 110Ps or power and a 1.5-litre petrol that puts out an impressive 106Ps of power. While petrol comes coupled with a 5-speed transmission, diesel uses a 6-speed transmission.
There’s no option of automatic and a fully capable 4x4 transmission at the moment, which prevents it from becoming a well-rounded package.

Renault Captur Mileage

While Captur petrol claims to deliver 13.87kmpl and diesel claims to offer 20.37kmpl, in real world conditions, you can expect a drop of anywhere around 15-30%. Renault Captur mileage figures are indeed impressive if you consider the size of the vehicle and the engine it employs.

Renault Captur Braking and Safety

Captur offers disk brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear, and together they offer good stopping power. It also offer ABS, EBD, BA and ESC etc. as active safety features which further enhance the safety net.
Passive safety features includes front airbags, side airbags and seatbelts which prevent passenger injury in case of a mishap.

Renault Captur Performance and Handling

Captur’s chassis is quite stiff and providing great handling in all conditions is its forte. The steering offers ample feedback and greatly tuned suspension system ensure that none filters through to the passengers. It can effortlessly cruise at triple digit speeds and feel extremely steady.

What do we think about Renault Captur?

We consider that the Captur is overpriced for what it offers, since it offers nothing exceptional. There are definitely better-equipped products in this space which offer much better value. Don’t go far, have a look at Duster, which is a really fine and capable product. You should give Captur a chance and consider it only if you are not sold on anything else.

Renault Captur Competitors

In this space, Captur would face competition from the cars like Creta, Scorpio, S-Cross. It’s expected that it would eat into some of the space that currently Duster caters to.
