To achieve the best fuel economy, you should ensure that you are travelling in a higher (5 or whichever gear is the highest) gear whenever there's an open stretch and you are not stuck in traffic. Also, the higher gear, maintain speeds around the economy zone, the zone is generally marked in green by manufacturers around speedometer. Or you can assume this be around 45-55kmph for most cars. You would burn least amount of fuel if you do not push the car too much in every gear and keep the engine revolutions to minimum.
