How does Renault Lodgy compare to Maruti Suzuki Ertiga?
By: Anil on 2017-04-12
Both the MPVs have a different styling approach but still both of them are very good looking in their own way.
Lodgy is bigger than the Ertiga in every way, it is longer, wider and taller hence it much more spacious. The ground clearance of Ertiga is 185mm while Lodgy comes with a ground clearance of 174mm, but it is more than sufficient to tackle Indian road conditions.
The Lodgy is nicely spacious and comes with comfortable seats. In terms of third row seating space, Lodgy offers much better room than Ertiga. Both cars come with a plethora of features with both having some extra features over the other.
Lodgy is built on the Renault Duster platform and powering this MPV is the same 1.5-litre, turbocharged diesel engine which does duty on the Duster. The diesel model of Ertiga is powered by 1.3 liter DDiS turbocharged engine that discharges peak power & torque outputs of 89 bhp and 200 Nm respectively. While Lodgy comes in two engine options – both 1.5 diesel, but with 108 bhp & 245 Nm and 84 bhp & 200 Nm power & torque choices. The claimed mileage of Ertiga is a bit better than Lodgy.
Despite its bigger dimensions Lodgy weights under 1.4 tons which gives Lodgy one of the best power-to-weight ratio’s in its segment. Power delivery is punchy and the Lodgy never really feels underpowered on the highways. Though, the low-end performance isn’t great, there is quite a bit of lag in city driving conditions. It offers good stability at high speeds and doesn’t feel stressed at triple digit speeds. It feels fantastic to drive with the well weighted steering and light clutch.
Finally in my opinion, it is the Lodgy which is the better MPV of the two, as it offers better performance, a better ride quality and the solid build quality that the Ertiga can't match.

The front seats of Renault Lodgy Stepway move sightly (by a few mm), especially during braking. But the service centre in Bangalore says it is "normal play" in Lodgy seats. Never heard of such a weird thing in 35 years of motoring. Is this true, or is the service station fooling me?!

Should I change my Maruti Ertiga ZDi and get a Renault Lodgy RXZ? How are the after sale services of Renault in Pune? Also, I have heard that the spare parts aren't readily available here. Is that so?
