In my opinion, as your monthly running is low (1100 – 1200 kms), a petrol car makes more sense as it will help you to keep fuel costs down. And there is no significant difference between the mileage of petrol and diesel models of Skoda Superb, the ARAI certified mileage of petrol model is 14.7 kmpl while of diesel model is 18.2 kmpl, so the difference is only 3.5 kmpl. Also the price difference between petrol and diesel (per liter) is also just 8-9 rupees, so considering your monthly running, the diesel variant would save you around Rs. 21,000 – 22,000 in one year on fuel, hence the extra 3.5 – 4 lakhs you pay for diesel model will be covered in 15-20 years. Also the servicing costs and costs of spare parts are higher for diesel cars than their petrol counterparts.
