Tata Tiago can be to be better than the Wagon R if we talk in terms of pricing and engine performance. Tata Tiago starts from Rs. 3.3 lakhs and goes up to Rs. 5.7 lakhs (ex-showroom at New Delhi) and it offers all the latest features whereas the Wagon R starts from Rs. 4.2 lakhs and goes up to Rs. 5.3 lakhs (ex- showroom at New Delhi) but it lacks a diesel engine option and also various other features as well.
The Tata Tiago base variant is equipped with a 1199cc engine that produces 84 bhp at 6000 rpm with a mileage of 19.24 kmpl in the city and 23.84 kmpl on the highway whereas the Wagon R has a 998 cc engine that produces a bhp of 67 at 6200 rpm with a city mileage of 17.08 kmpl and on the highways it can offer around 20.51 kmpl. Although the base variant of Tata Tiago lacks a few basic features like the air conditioner and power windows which are present on the Wagon R, the former is way cheaper. The boot space of Tiago is massive with 242 litres whereas the Wagon R has a smaller boot space of 180 litres.
When we compare the top variant of the Wagon R, it is mated with an automatic transmission petrol engine while the top variant of Tata Tiago petrol gets a manual transmission. However, at the price of top end petrol WagonR you can get the top end Tata Tiago diesel variant. Former is priced at Rs. 5.19 lakhs with automatic transmission whereas the manual transmission top end is priced at Rs. 4.7 lakhs. The top end Tiago diesel is priced at Rs. 5.05 lakhs.
Tata Tiago has more features such as navigation system, glove box cooling, height adjustable driving seat, rear spoiler, tinted glass and bluetooth connectivity etc. All these features help Tata Tiago win this battle comfortably. The only place where Tata loses from Maruti is the after sales service costs and maintenance costs.
