Tata Tigor (2017-2018) Revotron XT Description
Tata Motors was the first to offer a sub-4 meter sedan and with the launch of Tigor, the company has further bolstered its sub-4 meter sedans line-up. The new Tigor is the compact sedan version of the well-received Tata Tiago hatchback and it is the company’s third product based on the IMPACT design philosophy. The company has termed the Tigor as 'Styleback' and it comes with the impressive boot capacity of 419 litre. The car has been designed to lure customers who find shortcomings in Tiago and Hexa.
Tata Tigor (2017-2018) Revotron XT ExteriorTata Tigor looks more beautiful, elegant and premium than other cars in its segment. The design follows the same design philosophy as Tiago and Hexa. The headlamps look beautiful with their curves and are quite striking. There are body-coloured bumpers, outside door handles and outside rear view mirrors to make it more desirable. At the rear, there is a high-mounted LED lamp with roof-integrated spoiler. This car sits on a 2450 mm of wheelbase, and measures 3992 mm in length, 1677 mm in width and 1537 mm in height.
Tata Tigor (2017-2018) Revotron XT InteriorThe nicely laid-out interior looks fresh and is all about elegance. Although there are no major changes over the Tiago, the cabin appears airy, there clearly is better use of materials and the overall finish has also improved. All the seats have excellent cushioning, with legroom and headroom being in plenty. There are decent amount of storage spaces inside the cabin to keep the car clean and tidy. The air-conditioner works well and cools the cabin quickly. Boot space is quite accommodating as well, having 419-litre of cargo space so that you can keep all the luggage for those weekend getaways with ease.
Some of the key features of Tigor XT include Air Conditioner (manual), adjustable tilt steering, headlight off and ignition key off reminder, parking sensors, electrically-adjustable ORVMS, follow-me home headlamps, fog lamps, etc. It is equipped with a 6-speaker 2-DIN stereo with radio AM/FM/MP3, and bluetooth, USB and AUX-in connectivity. Audio sound quality is very good, lifting your mood within no time. The instrument cluster is simple to read and offers basic information, such as trip meter, average fuel consumption, average speed, distance to empty, clock, low fuel level warning, door ajar warning, gear indicator, shift indicator, tachometer, etc.
Tata Tigor (2017-2018) Revotron XT Engine & TransmissionPowering the Tigor is the same 1.2 L 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine offered with Tiago. There are no changes in the power and torque figures as well. The engine discharges a maximum power of 83 bhp at 6000 rpm and peak torque of 114 Nm at 3500 rpm. Mated to this engine is 5-speed manual transmission setup. It comes with the first-in-segment multi-drive system with two driving modes: Eco and City.
Tata Tigor (2017-2018) Revotron XT MileageAs for the fuel economy, the new Tigor XT has an ARAI fuel efficiency of 23.8 kmpl, which is quite respectable.
Tata Tigor (2017-2018) Revotron XT Braking and SafetyThe company has fitted disc brakes on the front wheels, while assembling the drum brakes on the rear ones. The brake pedal has a very nice, firm feel and offers good progression. The list of safety aspects includes an anti-lock braking system with EBD and brake assist system that improves the braking aspects of the vehicle.
Tata Tigor (2017-2018) Revotron XT Performance and HandlingThe balance between ride and handling has been well achieved, and the Tigor XT offers a good blend of both. The 1.2-litre Revotron engine has good performance for the city and makes driving in stop-go traffic a breeze; it feels very responsive in the mid range and it actually makes the car fun to drive. The car is fairly silent at idle and there aren’t noticeable vibrations to speak of.
The gearbox is slick shifting and in-gear acceleration is very good. High-speed stability is good and the car remains firmly planted. There is a bit of body roll on the vehicle but nothing too troublesome. The steering wheel offers decent feedback; it is light and easy to operate at low speeds, and weighs up nicely as the speed increases. The overall ride quality on the Tigor XT is pretty good and it absorbs bumps with fair ease.
Tata Tigor (2017-2018) Revotron XT VerdictThe new Tigor looks quite appealing, the interiors are loaded with features, cabin is spacious and practical, and the engines are also fuel efficient. The car will compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Ford Aspire, Honda Amaze, Volkswagen Ameo and Hyundai Xcent in the compact sedan segment.
