I bought Tata motor’s premium hatchback Tata Vista last year. I simply fell in love with my car due to its new looks and improved appearance. The mighty FIAT engine gives power of about 89BHP. The best thing about this car is its interior space, though curvy design not let you feel so from...

Most fuel efficient car

Overall rating: 3.75 Reviewed By: Deep Patil on 18 october 2015
It is an affordable car for everyday use in and around the city. It has good boot space so all your luggage fits without hassles. I am satisfied with its performance and mileage. Only problem is it is not equipped with airbags.  Read More »

Value for money car

Overall rating: 3.75 Reviewed By: Ranjit Singh on 17 october 2015
It is a very fuel efficient car wearing Tata’s badge on it. It doesn’t require much maintenance and is also suitable for long distance journeys. There is enough leg room in the cabin to sit comfortably at a stretch. The touch screen is a bonus, with navigation facilities and music support.  Read More »

  • Overview Tata Vista Overview

Launched as a successor to the successful but aging Indica V2, the Indica Vista, promises to improve whatever the first passenger car from Tata Motors did. And it is an improvement indeed. Not just does the car feature an updated design, interior, and mechanicals, the vehicle is also bigger and better than the V2.
    Tata Vista Overview
Vista is available in two engine options, both diesels, a TDi unit and a Fiat-sourced Quadrajet engine. In total there are three variants, namely LS, LX, and the top-spec VX Tech.
    Tata Vista Overview
  • Exterior Tata Vista Exterior

A spruced up version of the Tata Indica V2, the Vista is not. It is instead the Indica that should interest a lot of people looking for a nice and practical family hatchback. Up front, it gets upswept headlamps, a wide radiator grille and a well-executed front bumper. The single crease on the bonnet adds character to the design too.
    Tata Vista Exterior
On the sides, it slightly gets bland, but it still remains proportionate. The turn-signals mounted on the A-pillar and the single crease running through the door handles are the two prominent features of the Vista. The roundish roof line gives it a curvy silhouette, but it's more of a personal preference.
    Tata Vista Exterior
The rear too isn't very different from the sides, and remains plain at best. The christmas tree tail-lamps still look good, but it's too Indica V2-like, the rear. Well, that's not exactly a bad thing, since Indica wasn't a bad design in the first place.
  • Interior Tata Vista Interior

Step inside and you might forget that it's a Tata. Okay, the quality of plastics might not be right there on top, but it's a massive improvement, nevertheless. The Vista was originally introduced with a centre-mounted instrument panel, but seeing the displeasure from customers, it has now shifted back to the conventional position.
    Tata Vista Interior
The dual tone theme interior goes makes the cabin look bigger, which is quite spacious already. In terms of equipment, the VX Tech variant is the best specced of the lot. The car also gets a 6.5-inch Touchscreen entertainment system with a plethora of multimedia options on the VX Tech variant. It gets a navigation system too.

  • Engine & Transmission Tata Vista Engine & Transmission

The Indica Vista is available in two engine options: a 71PS TDi engine and the other, a 75PS Fiat-sourced Quadrajet unit. For a very short period of time, Tata did offer a 93PS version of the latter too, but unfortunately discontinued it. Out of the two, it's the Quadrajet that is more drivable and less crude.
    Tata Vista Engine & Transmission
Both engines get a 5-speed gearbox. It might not be the slickest unit out there, but does its job. Thanks to the torquey nature of the diesel engines, the car doesn't require a lot of gearshifts, especially the Quadrajet unit.
  • Mileage Tata Vista Mileage

Fuel economy wise, expect the TDi unit to deliver somewhere close to 16kmpl in city and about 19 on the highway. The Quadrajet, on the other hand, can manage close to 19kmpl in city and upwards of 20kmpl on the highway.
  • Braking and Safety Tata Vista Braking and Safety

All models get disc brakes on the front two wheels, while the rear wheels get drum brakes. Only the top-spec VX Tech variant gets ABS and EBD while the others don't get any such active safety features.
    Tata Vista Braking and Safety
But apart from that, the car benefits crumple zones, side impact beams, and a collapsible steering.
On the security front, all the variants get an engine immobilizer. There's a central locking and keyless entry available on the all trims except LS. The VX Tech, on the other hand, get a door ajar, seatbelt and key-in reminder.
  • Performance and Handling Tata Vista Performance and Handling

The car runs on 14-inch wheels, sporting 175/65 rubber. The suspension is biased towards keeping the ride comfortable but keeping that in mind, it can be a good tourer. It's easy to drive in the city as well as on the highway, and while attacking twisty roads might not be its forte, the Vista is still not that bad! In fact, it's entertaining, once you keep in mind its limitations.
  • What we think What do we think about Tata Vista?

It's visible from the figures that Vista hasn't lost the frugal nature of the original Indica. It also retains the spaciousness and comfort, but brings it all together in a very interesting package. There might be cars that can drive quicker than the Vista, and there might be some that offer better looks, but it offers a good balance of comfort and drivability. Tata has a large service network, which obviously adds to the plus points. All in all, it's a good product, and the recommended VX Tech variant gets good features at a not so high price.
  • Competitors Tata Vista Competitors

Positioned above the Indica V2, the Indica Vista sits very close to the premium hatchback territory. So, while on one hand, it has the slightly smaller cars like the Figo, Ritz and Beat, on the other there are hatchbacks like the Swift, i20, etc.
