This is a conctradiciting question that you cant just simply point out that this the right choice or that is the right choice as everthing have have its own cons and pros. In india if you want to attract indian buyers you definately have to show huge fuel economy, which only comes with Diesel motor of Etios Cross but buyers should keep in mind that diesel engine have to go under extra compression ratio in comperition to Petrol motor so regular servicing and fuild replacement is required which leads to high maintance cost. This should clear that choice is upto you that on which motor you want to go as u hardly feel any diffrence while driving.
Apart from the differences mentioned by Sonal in her answer, one more deciding factor can be there. Whether you want to go with power or fuel economy. Petrol cars are known to produce higher power whereas diesel cars produces more mileage and same is the case with Etios Cross. If we compare base models of both petrol and diesel variant, then petrol offers 78.9 bhp of maximum power with a mileage of 13.29 kmpl in whereas its diesel variant produces 67.06 bhp of max power with a city mileage of 18.04 kmpl. So, the decision entirely depends upon owner.
The Toyota Etios Cross is quite an efficient vehicle in terms of performance and styling. Finding differences between the petrol and diesel variants is quite an impossible task. Toyota has made both the diesel and petrol variants almost identical to each other except the type of engine and mileage efficiency. For daily commutes and short distance travelling, the petrol variant is more logical to purchase. But for mileage conscious consumers, the diesel version is more suitable. In terms of maintenance, the petrol variant requires a little less regular care, whereas the diesel variant needs a bit more regular maintenance checks.
