Being an SUV Toyota Fortuner is not built to return out good fuel economy figures but still Fortuner runs par with the best in segment cars in terms of fuel economy. Mileage in city traffic can be observed around 7.35 km/liter where as these mileage figures get better on highway rides, giving 12.55 km/liter on highways which is pretty much satisfying.
SUVs are quite heavy in comparison to normal hatches and sedans. They also have bigger engines. That's why their fuel efficiency is generally smaller than normal sedans and hatches. To overcome this, most of the manufacturers offer their SUVs in diesel versions. Toyota has also launched Fortuner only in diesel version in India. Its 2982 CC, 4 Cylinder, Inline DOHC type diesel engine with manual transmission option has been rated by ARAI to give a mileage of 12.55 Kmpl and with automatic transmission, it gives an output of 11.9 Kmpl. The original delivered mileage, however, depends a lot on driving habits, climatic condition, and traffic and road conditions.

"I have a 2007 Toyota Fortuner 4X4 3.0 D4D and have increased the suspension height and am using bigger wheels. Recently the inner CV joint by the tripod broke and I replaced it with a genuine Toyota spare part. Soon enough, while reversing in a full circle towards left, I heard a click sound and after investigating I found that it had broken again. What can be the possible reasons for this breaking? I have checked the upper and lower control arm bushes, upper and lower ball joints, stabilizer bushes as well as have measured alignment of the front and rear wheels also. I still haven’t been able to find the cause for this breakage. Please share an insight regarding the same. "
