Volkswagen Jetta Overview
After its thorough makeover , Volkswagen has yet again bestowed a volley of updates on Jetta saloon. However, the upgrades given to the saloon are restricted to cosmetic touch ups. That said, Jetta’s new avatar remains mechanically intact sporting evidently prominent exterior and interior styling cues to push it at par with the saloon’s international version. What is new in the Jetta? Exteriors don redesigned head lights in the front and slightly modified bonnet. The conspicuously larger grille featuring three chrome slats instead of two in its predecessor steals the attention. Bumper is equipped with relatively larger air intakes and restyled fog lights. Cabin also comes with a couple of additional features. Jetta is available in three variants namely Trendline, Comfortline and Highline in two engine options, while Trendline and Comfortline are available in both petrol and diesel trims, Highline is proffered only in diesel trim. Volkswagen Jetta Exterior
As can be seen in the Volkswagen Jetta pictures given below, the fundamental designing stays the same, no tweaks there, just mild styling alterations have been made. Front gets bi-xenon head lights with dynamic cornering lights, headlamps washer and integrated LED daytime running lights flank the three slat chrome radiator grille. Body coloured front bumper feature redesigned fog lights with static cornering lights along with chrome finished air dam. LED lighting around the number plate brings prominence to the front facade.
Side profile is highlighted by the decorative chrome strip on the side window, body coloured door handles, body coloured outside rear view mirrors with integrated turn indicators and 16 inch alloy wheels further accentuate the exterior appeal. Outside rear view mirrors can be adjusted and folded electrically, along with these it comes with heated with surround lighting and kerb view features. Rear is marked by dual exhaust pipes, captivating tail lights, wide body coloured bumper and rear fog lights.
Volkswagen Jetta Interior
Leatherette upholstery is draped in the mid and high level trims while base variant gets ‘Doryc’ fabric seat upholstery. Leather package includes leather wrapped steering wheel, gear shift knob and handbrake grip. Chrome rings on gauges on instrument cluster and chrome lined AC vents and rotary light switch add elegance to the cabin. Front centre arm rest comes with storage box and rear centre arm rest features load through provisions. New sporty flat bottom multi-function, tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel allow easy maneuvering. Other pertinent features inside the cabin include lockable and illuminated glove compartment, rear AC vents, sunglass holder, multi-function display and 60:40 split folding rear seat backrest.
When it comes to comfort features, Jetta is simply heavily equipped with prominent equipments such as climatic dual-zone air conditioning system, windshield in heat insulating glass, green heat insulating glass in side and rear windows, illuminated vanity mirrors, front seat with height adjuster, rain sensor and park distance control in front and rear with acoustic warning. Aspherical right side exterior mirror, ‘RCD 510’ touch screen music system with 6 CD changer, Aux-In and eight speakers, Bluetooth connectivity with for cell phone operation, mobile device interface MEDIA-IN adaptor cable in glove compartment, paddle shift for driver seat, electrically adjustable lumbar support for driver seat, cruise control, auto dimming interior mirror, power windows in front and rear, storage pockets on front seat back, automatic head laps activation, coming home and leaving home function for head lights, 12 v socket at front and rear sum up the other preeminent comfort features available on new Jetta.
Volkswagen Jetta Engine & Transmission
Engine configuration comprises of a 1.4 litre, four cylinder, in-line, turbocharged Intercooled petrol engine outputting top power of 122 PS at 5000 RPM along with peak torque of 200 Nm between 1500 to 4000 RPM. Diesel variants are armed with a 2.0 litre, four cylinder, in-line, CR turbocharged powertrain which pumps out maximum power output of 140 PS at 4200 RPM and 320 Nm torque of pinnacle torque between 1750 to 2500 RPM.
Volkswagen Jetta facelift transmission option includes a six-speed manual transmission mated to the petrol and diesel variants and a six-speed DSG automatic gearbox offered exquisitely on the high end Highline variant.
Volkswagen Jetta Mileage
On the grounds of mileage, Jetta does significantly well, the petrol variant is claimed to return 14.69 kmpl while the diesel manual variants are vouched to deliver 19.33 kmpl. Diesel automatic trim on the other hand can deliver 16.96 kmpl. Please note these mileage figures have been derived after tests conducted by ARAI.
Volkswagen Jetta Braking and Safety

Starting from fatigue detection, electronic stability control, anti-slip regulation, electronic differential lock, hill hold control, height adjustable front seat belts, seat belt tensioner in the front, 3-point rear centre seat belt, ISOFIX mounting points for two child seats on rear seat bench, 3 rear head restraints, central locking with 2 remote control folding keys, electronic engine immobilizer, engine and transmission guard, driver and front passenger airbag, front passenger airbag deactivation, curtain airbag for front and rear passengers, side airbags (front) and retro reflectors in all door. Compared to other saloons in its segment viz; Volkswagen Jetta Vs Toyota Corolla Altis, the former is endowed with considerably more safety features.
Volkswagen Jetta Performance and Handling
The petrol variants propel from rest to 100 kmph within 10.54 seconds, diesel MT trims on the other hand take 10.90 seconds to sprint from nil to 100 kmph and diesel AT accelerates to a ton from zilch in 10 seconds respectively. Volkswagen Jetta top speed attained is 208 kmph which is decent enough. The petrol engine still lacks that punch, while contrary to it, diesel mill delivers a much power packed performance. Ride and handling has always been a strong point of Jetta which continues to be the same in Jetta too.
