Why does Volkswagen Polo petrol have a lower mileage than Maruti Baleno?
By: Prashant on 4 august 2016
The Volkswagen Polo with a petrol powered engine produces a mileage of 16.47 kmpl which is very less when compared to the mileage of 21.4 kmpl of the Baleno petrol variant. The engine capacity on both these vehicles is the same and Baleno has a higher BHP among the two as well.
The main reason as to why Polo lacks behind in terms of mileage can be the body weight of the car. Polo is heavier than Baleno by 168 Kgs which is a lot. This added weight is due to heavier sheet metal that is used while fabrication of the vehicle. This however is good if there is a crash as this heavier and thicker sheet provides higher resistance. Baleno uses thinner fabricated sheet metal and is thus a lighter vehicle with a good and powerful engine. Apart from this, the engine of the Baleno is lighter as well since it is made up of Aluminium. This also reduces the weight of the Baleno and hence results to a superb mileage.
