Price of diesel variants are always on higher side as compared to petrol version of respective variant. The reason being diesel engines are costlier to manufacture due to design parameters. In general there would be difference of around 50 thousand to 1 Lac with diesel version on higher side.
As stated in previous answer, manufacturing cost of diesel engine is always greater than petrol engine. Diesel engines does not uses conventional spark plug to ignite the fuel, rather a more complex method of compressing the air and producing heat is used which in turn increases the cost of components. Petrol car in Volkswagen Vento are also cheaper than its diesel variants. Range of petrol variant of Vento varies from 7.9 lac to 10.5 lac (ex-showroom price Delhi) whereas diesel variant of Vento ranges from 9.1 lac to 11.5 lac (ex-showroom price Delhi).
This is not true, the lower diesel variant of Volkwagen Vento is available at Rs. 9.3 Lakh while the lowest petrol trim comes with a price tag of Rs. 8 Lakh. There are a number of reasons due to petrol variants are cheaper than diesel versions. First of all, petrol engines last long due to their strong build quality. The use of filters brings down the life of the diesel engines. Moreover, from the mileage point of view, diesel variants perform far better than the diesel one’s.
