Volvo XC90 Overview
The second generation of Volvo XC90 SUV boasts of styling tweaks on the outside along with a number of additions made inside the cabin. Volvo XC90 is available in two variants including the base Momentum trim and the range topping Momentum trim. Conceived on an all new platform, the SUV is a stunner making heads turn when spotted on road. Tweaks made on the outside such as a reworked front radiator grille and T-shaped running lights internally termed Thor’s hammer by the design team brings prominence to the front apron. One of the most significant changes made to the SUV is under the skin, the beast now gets a new diesel engine replacing the previous 2.4 litre, five cylinder diesel motor.
It now runs on a lower displacement 2.0 litre, four cylinder D5 diesel powerplant. An eight speed automatic transmission is synced with the diesel engine, the auto tranny transmits power is all four wheels. The 400 Bhp T8 petrol-electric plug-in hybrid variant of the SUV is also on cards and is likely to be rolled in 2016. Volvo swears by the snug cabin XC90 offers, in fact the company claims that this is the most premium cabin on offer by any of the Volvo car. Some of the exquisite interior features include a crystal glass gear-lever knob, diamond cut controls for the start/stop button, volume controls, a tablet-like touchscreen control console and a dashboard that literally does not come with any buttons equipped on it. Taking luxury to a new high are the plush interiors made of soft leather and wood go. Volvo XC90
Volvo XC90 Exterior
An eye catcher, Volvo’s second generation XC90 stands out in terms of looks amongst rivals. Volvo XC90 pictures of the exteriors given below show how compelling the new generation model looks. Front is assertive, while the fundamental designing has been retained the SUV has undergone a number of styling modifications enhancing its visual appeal. The hood seems bolder, edged by the captivatingly styled head lights on either end. In between the head lamps is an aggressive looking broad front radiator grille glutted with chrome. Chrome vertical slats and chrome surround on the front grille make it look modish; also the Volvo’s new iron mark badge placed in the centre looks just perfectly positioned. The highlight of the front apron is the all new ‘Thor Hammered’ LED day time running lights. Air inserts are large, allowing the air in for keeping the engine cool.
Chrome trims are also fitted on the air intakes further enhancing the outer semblance. Chrome work is done in abundance; the side profile too gets ample chrome treatment in the form of chrome side moulding and around the window frame. Flared wheel arches add muscularity to the SUV and match perfectly well with the large wheels. Multiple spoke alloys on either side of the vehicle not just look neat but is also lends sporty flair to the SUV. Front and rear bumpers are painted in body colour, outside door handles and outside rear view mirrors are also coloured in body colour. Rear features stylishly designed tail lights, reflectors, chrome exhaust tail pipes and rear spoiler. Roof rails, integrated antenna and side stepper are some of the other outer features exteriors come fitted with.
Volvo XC90 Interior
Step inside the cabin and you will be besotted by the bewitching charm of the interiors. As claimed by Volvo, XC90 indeed offers a well crafted cabin unlike any other Volve badged vehicle (or any of the rivals in its segment for that matter).
What works in the SUV’s favour is the use of premium leather and fine wood inside the cabin which renders it an exquisite look. The gear lever is made of orrefors crystal glass while the start-stop button and rotary control for the suspensions settings with diamond cut finish is looks completely posh. An all new infotainment system is embedded inside the cabin along with the nine inch touchscreen which can be swiped, pinched and enlarged akin to the smart phone we use. Along with these, the touchscreen comes with innumerable functions. Dashboard unlike before does not look cluttered with just 9 buttons featuring on it instead of 32 placed on the outgoing variant. Seats are well cushioned draped in premium upholstery, middle row gets 40:20:40 split seats offering a snug cabin experience. Front seats are lean permitting clear view while third row is generously spacious. The large panoramic roof is one of the highlights of the interiors. Cabin is enveloped in a light colour theme that looks endearing.
To add to the plush quotient inside the cabin, Volvo has incorporated a raft of gizmos. The Momentum trim offers height adjuster with memory function for the driver’s seat, panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch screen in the instrument cluster, park assist and hill descent control. On the other hand the range topping Inscription variant features a 19-speaker Bowers and Wilkins audio system, air suspension, heads-up display, ventilated front seats and Nappa leather upholstery. Volvo XC90 Vs Audi Q7, in comparison to one of its closest rivals, the former wins the battle hands down when it comes to interiors
