We have been extensively covering the automated or self-driven cars for quite a some time and fell obligatory to report this interesting piece of news. Google Inc's self-driving car program head has just confirmed that the project has been involved in 11 accidents, seven out of which were from the behind hit. And none of them were caused by the Google car itself.
Google self-driven car project has been pinnacle of all the projects considering the advancement they have achieved in no time. The project started six years ago and since then the Google car has seen many phases. Currently the project has covered a cumulative of 2.7 million km and only 11 accidents have been reported till date.
This is a big achievement considering more you drive, more you will be involved in accidents, we it human or be it machine. "Not once was the self-driving car the cause of the accident," said Chris Urmson, Project head of Google car on a technology website Backchannel's blog Medium. "No one was injured in the accidents", Urmson added.
"If you spend enough time on the road, accidents will happen whether you're in a car or a self-driving car." Ursom further added - "We'll continue to drive thousands of miles so we can all better understand the all-too common incidents that cause many of us to dislike day-to-day driving - and we'll continue to work hard on developing a self-driving car that can shoulder this burden for us."
