Czech Republic automaker Skoda Auto's Indian subsidiary that officially revealed the much anticipated 2013 Octavia earlier this month, has now confirmed the launch of the vehicle on 3rd October in India. Skoda Laura, which had replaced the Octavia brand in 2010, will also be sold alongside, therefore offering more options to buyers to choose from. What is more interesting is the fact, that the base variant of the all new Octavia might be priced even lesser than that of the Luara's, inform our close sources.
Built on the Parent company Volkswagen's popular MQB platform, the 2013 Octavia has been claimed to have got 'Bigger, Better, Bolder' than ever. Globally, VW Golf and Audi A3 are two products, built on the similar platform. This new platform has helped the new Octavia to get 45mm wider and 90mm longer than the Laura, making the new model more comfortable and spacious than before.
The new model is likely to be offered with an option of three engines- a 1.8-litre TSI petrol, a 2.0-litre TDI diesel, and a 1.4-litre TSI Petrol. While the first two engines are already doing duties to the existing Laura, the 1.4-litre petrol mill will be a new entrant in the line-up. This 1.4-litre TSI petrol is the same powering VW Jetta, which is capable of churning out the maximum power output of 120bhp at 5000 RPM, while yielding a peak torque of 200NM @ 1500-4000 RPM. So, expect the 1.4-litre TSI petrol motor powered variant to the entry level one, priced somewhere around Rs 14-15 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The 2013 Octy is a more up-market product with improved plastic quality, uniquely designed dashboard, better fit & finish and of course several new features. With features like Bi-xenon headlamps with LED Day light function, electrically adjustable panoramic sunroof, six airbags, automatic front wiper & lighting system, 12-way electrically adjustable driver seat with programmable memory, TPM (Tyre Pressure Monitor), electronic stability control, dual Zone climatronic & adjustable rear vents, the 2013 Skoda Octavia proves itself to be a highly advanced, safe and feature-rich car.
