Datsun India at it’s first ever Auto Expo, since its resurrection has presented the GO+ MPV in the capital. The seven seater MPV is expected to be officially launched in the country in the second half of 2014 and when it does, it will rival the segment leader, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the Nissan Evalia MPV and the upcoming Honda Mobilio MPV. The company is re-entering the automotive world after a long span of almost 30 years to compete in the developing markets like India, Indonesia and China.
The Datsun GO+ MPV is based on the same platform as the current Nissan Micra and hence, will be powered with the same engine - a 1.2-litre, three cylinder petrol unit - that has been tweaked to produce 68PS of max power and 104Nm of peak torque. However, the comapny has not shared a word over the diesel powered version, but we expect it to also get powered with 1.5-litre K9K series diesel engine, derived from Nissan, as a non-diesel MPV would not be able to lure the prospective buyers in its segment.
Dimensionally too, the Datsun GO+ shares the same 2,450mm wheelbase as the hatchback. Additional overhangs behind the rear wheels is what gives the MPV more space to accommodate the third row of seats. The interior elements are similar to that of GO hatchback except the third row seat. Overall length however, remains sub-4 meters to avoid the excise duty levied on larger cars.
The Japanese automaker made its global debut last year in India with unveiling of GO hatchback. The company is contemplating to price the model aggressively to capture the mass markets. We expect to see the Datsun GO+ in the Indian markets around November, post the launch of GO hatchback, with a price tag in the range of Rs 5.50 lakh to Rs 6.25 lakh. The comapny has also showcased its compact SUV concept, the Citi-Go.
