Bringing to forefront India’s first multi utility pick up is the Japanese automaker, Isuzu who have officially revealed the new Isuzu D-MAX Space Cab at the on-going 2014 Auto Expo. The D-MAX Space Cab is literally the extended version of the regular single cab version of the D-MAX. The only difference being that the Space Cab has blown itself to offer an additional 1.5 feet of space than the regular cab. Powering the D-MAX Space Cab is a 2.5-litre, four cylinder diesel engine, which churns out 134PS of max power and 249Nm of peak torque from 1,800-3,200rpm. Then engine will come mated to a 5-Speed manual transmission.
The original D-MAZ single cab was launched in India back in 2013 and is being brought into the country via the CBU route from Thailand. The range of D-MAX Space Cabs will be assembled at the Hindustan Motors’ Chennai plant, where the current MU-7 SUV is also put together. The new D-MAX Space Cab is expected to launch before the end of 2014 at a competitive price and will be available on sale across all Isuzu dealerships in the country.
On the occasion, Mr Takashi Kikuchi, president and managing director, Isuzu Motors India said, “In India, the pickup truck segment is one of the largest and fastest growing segments in Commercial Vehicles (CV), accounting to 35% of the total CV market. With the growth in the Indian economy and the resulting pickup truck market dynamics, we estimate India to be the world’s largest 1 Tn pickup truck market by 2023. The Isuzu D-MAX is one of the world’s favourite pickup truck brands, preferred world over by the Owner driven customers”.
