2014 Beijing Motor Show: Mercedes unveils Concept Coupe SUV to rival BMW X6

Snapshot: Mercedes has unveiled its Concept Coupe SUV at Beijing Motor Show which will spawn the MLC to contend against BMW X6

Mercedes-Benz has revealed its much-anticipated Concept Coupe SUV at the ongoing Beijing Motor Show. Mercedes first unveiled the Concept coupe at its Shareholder meet which held in Germany earlier this month. The new concept will spawn the company's first coupe SUV, the MLC, around mid 2015 to contend directly with the BMW X6. The new interesting creation is based on the M-Class and will share its mechanical baseline with the same model. However, the modernity in its styling will be far-ahead of company's 'dropping line' design language.

The Coupe concept sits on a modified version of the M-Class high strength steel floor pan which will underpin its production version too. While the suspension arrangement is double wishbone at front and multi-link setup at rear, power comes from a 3.0-litre twin turbocharged V6 petrol engine that belts out 322 BHP and 480 Nm of torque. The same unit is likely to be occupied under the hood of M-Class facelift. As Mercedes officials said, a newly in-house developed 9 Speed 9G-Tronic Plus automatic gearbox will be employed to deliver force to the MLC's all four wheels via comapny's patented 4MATIC drivetrain system.

The production version of MLC will get the 'Dynamic Select Control' system to aid the driver selecting between five driving modes- Comfort, Slippery, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual as per the road conditions. A set of fuel saving measures like brake energy recuperation, automatic stop/start and a coasting function that idles the engine on extended periods of trailing throttle  will be employed to boost the efficiency.

The German automaker will assemble MLC at its Tuscaloosa facility in Alabama alongside its other siblings from C, GLK, M and GL series. The MLC is scheduled to enter the International market around mid 2015.
