The Beijing Motor Show this time round is full of concepts, and the Germans seem to have stolen a march over others in this department. Not to be outdone, the Japanese are also making their presence felt; and now Suzuki has also unveiled its Alivio concept, a production ready version of Ciaz, which it has previewed at the Auto Expo earlier this year in India. In fact, the Alivio, as Suzuki calls it, is being touted as the replacement of the SX4. Subtle design changes make it ready to go into manufacture.

The Alivio Concept measures at 4545mm in length, 1730mm in height and 1475mm in width. Its wheelbase is 2650mm while the low slung styling gives it a wide yet stable stance while standstill. Strangely, its head lamps shape looks similar to that of the Ertiga MUV whereas the rear of the Alivio is quite identical to the 2014 Honda City with multi-dimensional tail lamps, sharp elongated curve on the boot lid while the chrome accents above the registration plate housing is a nice design touch.

Powered by a 1586cc four-cylinder petrol engine, the Alivio will also be available with the tried and tested 1.3-litre MultiJet oil burner under the hood. The company is also likely to introduce a new-generation 6-speed automatic gearbox on this new model.

Maruti has already been testing the Avilio/Ciaz in India since pointing to a September 2014 launch. The new SX4 will compete with the likes of Honda City, Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento in India.
