2014 Datsun Go: Variants explained

Snapshot: The Go hatchback is being offered in a total of four variants: D, D1, A & T. We take a detailed look at each one of them.

Much has been said about the Datsun brand’s comeback and the model that has now officially marked the brand’s return - the all-new 2014 Datsun GO hatchback. The commercial launch of the Go hatch got underway yesterday, at an elaborate event in New Delhi. Stumping everyone’s expectations was the ridiculously competitive sticker price of Rs 3.12 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) for the base variant - immediately, threatening the likes of the Alto K10 and the Hyundai Eon.

We take a detailed look at all the variants of the Datsun Go that are currently on offer in the Indian market - to help you choose wisely.

1. Datsun Go D

The base variant D has been priced at Rs 3.12 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and features only the minimum bare necessities that one would expect to find in an entry-level hatchback. These include, black bumpers, only driver’s side rear view mirror, manual-winding windows and follow me home headlamps. There is however, no air-conditioning. The instrumentation panel gives out fuel consumption readings, average and distance before which, you need to stop for re-fuelling. A digital tachometer is standard.

2. Datsun Go D1

The difference between D and D1 is almost negligible in terms of both - pricing and features. In addition to all those features mentioned above, the D1 gets a few more cubby holes to store knick-knacks and other items and a bottle holder. The asking price for the D1 is only, Rs 2,500 more than the D variant.

3. Datsun Go A

The mid-level variant, Datsun Go A has been priced at Rs 3.46 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and gets you body coloured bumpers and chrome ring around the front grille on the outside. On the inside, there is air-conditioning and different seat covers.

4. Dastun Go T

The top-end Go T variant has been priced at Rs 3.69 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), which is Rs 23,500 more than the Go A variant. So over and above the features listed in the A variant, the top-level trim also gets a simple music system, speed sensitive power steering that weighs up as you drive faster, front power windows, wheel covers and body coloured door handles.
