On the sidelines of the Fiat Punto Evo launch event that got underway in New Delhi this week, the Italian automaker confirmed that the the all-new Avventura crossover will make its commercial debut in the country within the next two months. The development was revealed by Nagesh Basavanhalli, president and managing director of Fiat India.
The Fiat Avventura that was first presented at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show is being termed as the country’s first CUV or ‘Contemporary Urban Vehicle’ and will rival the other sub-4 metre crossovers in India such as the Toyota Etios Cross and the Volkswagen Cross Polo. The Avventura, is essentially, a rugged version of the road-going Punto hatchback. This has been achieved with the additional plastic cladding all around the lower bodywork of the car. Like the case is, with traditional SUVs - the Avventura crossover features tail-gate mounted spare wheel. The alloy wheels’ design is similar to the one, which is seen on the Fiat 500 model with orange treading and the exhaust seems to have been borrowed from the Linea T-Jet.
On the inside, the similarities are stark with the Punto hatchback. However, keeping the adventure and rugged spirit in mind, the interiors too have been modified. The seats have been wrapped with black leather and feature orange stitching. The instrument panel is similar to that of the Punto, but the font had been changed to create subtle differences. Feature list includes, climate control, cruise control, 2-DIN music system and a compass.
Under the hood, we expect to see a 1.4-litre T-Jet petrol engine that produces 115PS of max power and 204Nm of peak torque and a 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine that is rated at 95PS and 209Nm. Both engines will be mated to a 6-Speed manual gearbox.
Fiat India has earlier stated that the Avventura crossover will also be exported out of the country into certain international markets, post it’s India launch. Expect a price tag ranging between Rs 5.30 lakh and Rs 8 lakh to accompany the Avventura crossover in India.
