BMW has unveiled the all-new X4 at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show. The X4 styling is similar to the X6, with a slanted coupe-type roofline, high ground clearance and bold design language. The German automaker claims that these are in a 'Sports Active Coupe (SAC)' segment that is claimed to serve both the driving and comfort pleasure of a premium sedan along with off-roading potential of an SUV. Post the launch of X4, BMW's SUV portfolio will be raised to a total of five models on offer.

The new coupe-like SUV looks aggressive with broad front-end stance due to an enlarged kidney grille, air ducts on the bumper and sharply crafted headlamps. Furthermore, sharp creases on side profiles with a slanted roof adds an impressive touch to its overall styling. BMW has built the X4 on its mid-size SUV X3 platform with revised underpinnings and suspension setup. Double wishbones at front and a multi-link configuration at rear make the suspension a little stiffer in the interest of agility. Dimensions are also bigger than the X3 with 4671mm total length, 1881mm width and 1624mm height. However, a sloping roofline limits the boot capacity to 500 liters which with folded second row seats can be increased to 1400 liters.

Initially, the X4 will be introduced only in a diesel engine variant which will be followed by petrol powertrain options. However, India will get the diesel powered model only. The base XDrive20d trim will be powered by a 2-litre turbocharged diesel engine, producing 187 BHP of power. The next variant, the XDrive30d gets 254bhp and XDrive35d with 307 BHP. Similarly, base petrol variants will be powered by a 2-litre turbocharged engine, in which XDrive20i will get 181 BHP while XDrive28i would get 242 horses.

The X4 will compete against the Range Rover Evoque and the Porsche Macan. We can expect it to reach our shores by this year end.
