Honda Car India has postponed the launch of its premium hatchback Jazz in the country for an indefinite time. The company has earlier announced that it would launch the 'phased out' hatchback within this fiscal year but now it won't happen anytime sooner due to the immense demand for other company products such as City sedan and the recently launched Mobilio MPV.
Honda hasn't discarded the possibilities of Jazz launch in India at all, but it has zeroed on a date around mid 2015 to accommodate the strong demand for the other models. Last year we announced that within this fiscal year we will come up with Mobilio and Jazz. But the great demand (for other models) is exceeding our expectations. So we started the second shift of our second plant," Hironori Kanayama, President and CEO, Honda Cars India, told reporters here today. "The demand seems to be so strong, so the launch of the Jazz is slightly adjusted. That's what we think. We have not yet taken a decision (on the exact time of launch). We anticipate the launch of Jazz any time next year," he said.
2014 Honda Jazz is expected to be in a price domain of Rs. 4.5-7.5 Lakhs upon its arrival in the country. Honda had showcased the hot hatch at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo where the Jazz grabbed several eye-balls. Under the hood, it is expected to don Honda's 1.5L twin engines with greater power and peculiar fuel efficiency. However, the company might also drift towards the 1.2L petrl motor in favour of an exemption in excise duties from the government of India. Being based on the City platform, the Jazz in its previous stint in the country used to in-house the 1.2-litre petrol engine.
