Japanese automaker Honda that unveiled the Urban SUV Concept at the Detroit Motor Show in January, 2013 is now all set to unveil the production version of the car at the Tokyo Motor Show, starting on 20th November. In the meantime, patent images of the production ready Honda Urban SUV have been leaked online, which give us a clear idea about the final design of the car. Following its launch in some international markets including the home market Japan, the vehicle will hit the Indian shores as well.
Based on the 2014 Jazz platform, the Urban SUV has a fascinating body design with low roofline, broad stance and prominent character lines. The similar platform will also underpin the next generation Jazz/fit and new generation Honda City. The design of the car more or less remains the same as the Urban SUV Concept, showcased earlier this year. Measuring 4300mm in length, the Urban SUV is spacious enough for its segment, though it is about 228mm smaller than the Honda CR-V.
Globally, the Urban SUV is expected to feature the Jazz/Fit's engine line-up, along with the Civic's 1.6-litre diesel engine. For the Indian market, Honda might fit a 1.5-litre i-VTEC and a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine, which will also power the all new Honda City. With over 4-metre length and bigger engines, the compact SUV might be priced around Rs 10 lakh, so to compete against the likes of Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano.
In terms of interior, the vehicle might share its design with the next generation Jazz including the similar magic seats. However, the design may vary in different global markets. Other than the Urban SUV, the all new City, new Jazz, a brio based 'Mobilio' MPV are three India bound vehicles.
