Autoportal had recently broken the news that the 1.0-litre Hyundai Eon was coming soon. Now the company has introduced this car officially into the market. This refreshed Eon has been officially launched in the Indian market today with prices starting at Rs 3.83 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi.)
The major highlight of the updated Eon comes in the form of the new 1.0-litre Kappa petrol engine that is being offered in the Magna+ variant. The all-new 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder Kappa petrol engine features the latest Dual VTVT technology and is Euro V compliant. The unit is said to be lighter, due to the use of an aluminium head and block in its construction. The engine is able to produce 69PS of max power at 6,200rpm and 94Nm of peak torque at 3,500rpm and is coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. The current 800cc engine is rated at 55PS and 75Nm. The new 1.0-litre Eon will be sold alongwith the existing 0.8-litre engine, equipped in the base variants.
The ARAI claimed fuel efficiency for the 1.0-litre Eon is 20.3 kmpl. Hyundai also claims that the NVH levels on the car have been improved with the use of low friction timing chain, while the piston cooling jets ensures optimum piston temperature for most efficient working.
Styling wise, the new Eon does not get any updates, except for the ‘1.0’ badging on the boot lid and the ‘Kappa’ badging on the front driver side fender. In terms of features however, the new Eon 1.0-litre gets an updated music system, front air-conditioning, power steering, power windows, engine immobiliser, keyless entry and full wheel caps as standard.
Commenting on the launch of the new Eon 1.0L, Mr B S Seo, managing director and CEO, HMIL said, “Hyundai Eon has been a trendsetter of style, performance, design and finesse in its segment and has received good acceptability and appreciation from its customers. Hyundai consistently innovates to meet and exceed the demands of the customer and the 1.0-litre Kappa engine now offered in Eon is an extension of our modern-premium brand philosophy and will delight our customers with unparalleled driving experience and further consolidate Hyundai’s position in the domestic market.”
With the introduction of the new 1.0-litre engine in the Eon, Hyundai is hoping for a better fight against its rivals such as the Datsun Go, Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Chevrolet Spark and the Hyundai Santro Xing.
