Mahindra & Mahindra’s flagship SUV, the Scorpio has been in the Indian market for over ten successful years. And in these ten years, the model has seen quite a handful of facelift and updates. However for the model year 2014, an all-new Scorpio SUV is being planned and according to industry reports, the vehicle is slated to make its commercial debut in the Indian market this October.
The said model in question has been caught on test in and around Maharashtra and Chennai a number of times. There were also some speculations that the Scorpio Facelift will make an appearance at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show. But then, the Indian automaker decided move the SUV’s debut to around the festive season.
The upcoming Mahindra Scorpio Facelift is expected to get major cosmetic and features updates. However, the engine and powertrain options will remain unchanged. On the outside, the new model is expected to sport a revised front end with new projector headlamps, re-designed grille and a new front bumper. At the rear, the SUV will sport a new set of taillights, tail-gate and a new rear bumper.
Inside the cabin, the SUV is expected to sport a fresh dashboard layout, new steering wheel and a revamped centre console. Lastly, we hear that the new Scorpio could also borrow some comfort and entertainment features from the Mahindra XUV5OO.
As mentioned earlier, the mechanical bits will remain unchanged. However, we do expect the engine to be slightly re-tuned for better fuel economy and refinement. The current generation of Scorpio SUV comes powered by a 2.2-litre m-Hawk diesel engine that puts out 120PS of max power and 290Nm of peak torque. The engine can be had with either a 5-Speed manual or a 6-Speed automatic transmission.
The heavily revised Scorpio SUV will rival the likes of Nissan Terrano, Tata Safari Storme and the Renault Duster. Expect a price tag ranging between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 13 lakh to accompany the Mahindra Scorpio SUV in the Indian market.
