Mercedes Benz India have officially launched the all-new CLA 45 AMG in the Indian market today with prices starting at Rs 68.50 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi.) At that price point, the CLA 45 AMG has now become the cheapest AMG model in the range offered in India. Also, at the launch event, the company confirmed that the launch of the regular CLA-Class will get underway within the next three months.
The CLA45 AMG is based on Merc’s highly successful MFA (Modular Front Architecture) platform that also underpins the gorgeous A-Class and the B-Class. The A-Class has already received rave reviews for its handsome front grille and the same has been borrowed by the CLA coupe and also the CLA45 AMG. The swooping roof line has been inspired by the larger CLS-Class. Couple that to a low body kit, broad wheels and seamless windows and you get one very stylish machine.
When you have the AMG tag on a Merc, a glance at the spec sheet is mandatory. Case in point being, the CLA 45 AMG has been equipped with the world’s most powerful series production spec four- cylinder engine. The heavily turbocharged 2.0-litre engine throws out 360PS of power and 450Nm of torque. The combination of power and traction becomes so dominant that Mercedes is claiming an astonishing 4.6 second run to 100 kmph - that’s faster than a lot of more powerful supercars in the world. The engine comes mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which sends power to all four-wheels via Merc’s 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.
In the Indian market, the CLA 45 AMG will compete with the likes of BMW Z4, Porsche Boxster and the Audi TT. The Mercedes Benz CLA 45 AMG now joins the range of AMG-tagged performance cars in India, which comprises of the C 63 AMG, G 63 AMG, ML 63 AMG, E 63 AMG and the SLK 55 AMG.
