Mini India has launched its new generation Cooper 3-door and 5-door hatch at a sticker price of Rs 31.85 Lakhs and Rs 35.20 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom), respectively. This is the first time that the company is offering a 5-door hatch in India and both the 3-door as well as 5-door versions are available only with the diesel powertrains.
Both the new models of the Mini Cooper D are bigger and more spacious than the outgoing models of the hatch. Being based on the company's new UKL platform, the Mini twins also come with a fresh front suspension along with a revised rear suspension. Talking about the exteriors, it flaunts some never-seen-before elements such as bulbous and prominent nose, contrasting roof, and a few decals. Inside the cabin, it has a couple of circular elements to maintain the retro-ness in form of toggle switches. The speedometer rests behind the steering wheel, while there is a big touch-screen infotainment system at the centre console.
Under the hood, both the 3-door and 5-door versions, have an all-new 1.5L twin turbo diesel motor. This diesel mill dishes out a maximum power of 114 bhp and peak torque of 270Nm. It is paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox which transfers the power to the front wheels of both these hatchbacks. Mini Cooper 5-door version is an entirely new entrant to India and it will compete against the likes of Mercedes A-Class and BMW 1-Series. On the other hand, the Mini 3-door version would be at loggerheads with the yet-to-be-launched Fiat Abarth 500.
