Skoda India would launch the updated 2014 Rapid sedan in Indian market on September 30, 2014. Earlier being seen as a special edition of the sedan while it was spied during its runs, it has now been revealed and confirmed that it ain't any special edition but the updates version of Rapid sedan.
The 2014 Skoda Rapid would not get any cosmetic changes as the company had updated the interiors of the sedan recently by introducing an all new steering wheel with mounted audio controls, the new ‘Skoda’ typeface for badges, a new gear knob etc. to name a few. The sedan is expected to carry all these changes with it, including the projector headlamps. Skoda dealers are offering the ongoing model of the sedan with heavy discounts ranging upto Rs. 90,000, depending upon the variant.
However, the big change comes in the form of engine and transmission. The 1.6-liter four-cylinder TDI engine which is available with Rapid currently has gone for a toss in favour of a new 1.5-liter TDI engine. It is the same engine that made its debut with the facelifted version of the Polo hatchback last month. It churns out a power output of 104 bhp and peak torque of 250Nm. This engine would be paired with a DSG automatic gearbox which is likely to be a 6-speed one. Also, there would be one 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine mated variant in the range as well and it would be sporting an automatic transmission. It would compete directly with the Hyundai Verna 1.6 Diesel AT and would cost around Rs. 10.5 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
