The Skoda Yeti SUV in-spite, of being a potent performer didn’t quite rake up any commendable sales numbers in the Indian market. In 2013, the premium SUV registered sales of a meagre 618 units, averaging just about 51 units per month. The Czech automaker then, decided to pull the plug on the model in the country. Not too long after that though, Skoda India seemed to have changed its mind and presented the updated Yeti SUV at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show - officially announcing its comeback into the Indian market.
The rationale behind the move is that the Czech automaker plans to roll out more SUVs in the country and hence, does not want to disconnect itself from the lucrative segment just yet. And now according to the latest reports, it is understood that new 2014 Skoda Yeti is slated to make its official debut in India on the 10th of September.
Internationally, the Skoda Yeti is available in two body styles: Outdoor and Style. What will land on the Indian shores however, is only the Outdoor version, which features blackened bumpers, air-intakes, side mouldings and blackened door sills. The updated Yeti also sports new LED daytime running lights, bi-xenon headlamps, re-designed 16-inch alloy wheels and black plastic cladding along the lower part of the body. Feature-wise, the new Yeti has been equipped with keyless entry, start-stop system, electrical adjustable driver’s seat, cruise control as standard and tyre pressure monitoring system.
Powering the new Skoda Yeti SUV in the Indian market will be the same set of engine options that served the earlier model. This means that the premium SUV will come powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that has been tuned in two states: one churning out 110PS and 250Nm and the other, 140PS of max power and 320Nm of peak torque. The base model will get a 5-Speed manual transmission, which sends power to the front wheels only, while the higher spec variant will come mated to a 6-Speed automatic tranny that features an all-wheel drive system.
In the Indian market, the 2014 Skoda Yeti will rival the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Honda CR-V, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and the Hyundai Santa Fe.
