The Indian arm of the U.S-based automaker, Toyota Kirloskar Motors has rolled out the updated Corolla Altis in the Indian market today with prices starting at Rs 11.99 lakh for the petrol variant, while the diesel variant starts at Rs 13.07 lakh (Both prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi.) The model was first presented at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show earlier this year. The company dealers had already started accepting bookings of the Corolla Altis with a downpayment of Rs 50,000. The deliveries are expected to commence from next week.
Based on the Toyota Furia Concept, the Indian-spec Corolla has taken a huge leap from the out-going model, ditching the old conservative lines and taking a more dominant and radical approach. At the front, the model features a square design with sharp lines on the bumper, grille and the hood. The blacked-out headlamps, which now sport LED inserts, flow upwards into the sloping bonnet. At the back, the model features wrap-around tail lamps and bold, bulging lines. The updated model also measures 5mm lower than the out-going model and stands on a new set of 16-inch alloys.
On the inside, the new Corolla Altis gets an advanced dashboard with a new 7.1-inch TFT touchscreen system with navigation. The overall layout of the interiors and colour combinations look classy and give the cabin a more premium feel. Toyota claims that the new Altis has best in class space with an increased wheelbase of 100mm. The model also features reclining rear seats (segment-first) and tons of other safety and comfort features such as a rear camera with display audio screen, and Brake Assist with EBD and ABS.
Under the hood, is a 1.8-litre VVT-I petrol unit and a 1.4-litre D-4D diesel power plant. The petrol engine churns out 140PS of max power and 173Nm of peak torque, while the diesel engine is rated at 88.4PS and 205Nm. The petrol variants can be had either with a 6-Speed manual transmission or a 7-Speed sequential CVT automatic gearbox with paddle shifters, while the diesel engine comes mated to a 6-Speed manual gearbox only. A total of nine variant of the Corolla Altis are being offered on sale, of which - five are petrol variants and four are diesel variants.
