Last week, we reported that Volkswagen India are preparing to roll out the new 2014 range of Polo hatchback into the country on 15th of July. According to new reports however, it is understood that the launch event scheduled for next month will not cover the Polo GT TSI and GT TDI variants of the hatchback. The GT variants of the Polo will reportedly, be introduced only in the month of August.
Mechanically, the GT TSI variant will continue to be served by the same set of engine that powers the outgoing model. This means, the Polo GT TSI will come equipped with a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine that is rated at 105PS and 175Nm. This engine comes mated to a 7-Speed Dual-Clutch transmission.
The Polo GT TDI on the other hand, will come equipped with the new 1.6-litre unit, replacing the 1.5-litre unit that served the outgoing model. This new unit will come mated to a 5-Speed manual transmission and the engine.
Visual changes that are expected on the regular Polo hatchback will also make its way onto the GT variants - in the form of a new grille, new bumpers with chrome foglight enclosures, headlights with different mirror elements, a new three-spoke steering wheel, a silver insert for the centre console and a new font type for the instrument cluster.
