Volkswagen India have officially rolled out the facelifted version of the its Polo hatchback in the country today with prices starting at Rs 4.99 lakh for the base petrol variant and Rs 6.27 lakh for the base diesel variant. The company has also launched the GT variants and the Polo Cross along with the standard models with prices starting at Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 7.90 lakh respectively. The updated Polo hatchback comes with minor styling and feature updates. The big news however, is the new 1.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine that products 90PS of max power and 230Nm of peak torque. The new unit is essentially, a downsized version of the Vento’s EA189 1.6 TDI motor. In the Polo GT TDI, the same engine puts out 105PS of max power and 250Nm of torque. The range of petrol variants of the Polo hatchback and the Polo GT TSI will continue to be served by the turbocharged 1.2-litre engine that is rated at 105PS and 175Nm. The Volkswagen Cross Polo will also be powered by the new 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 90PS of max power and 230Nm of peak torque.
The 1.2-litre MPI and 1.5-Litre TDI engines have been mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, while the 1.2-litre TSI in the Polo GT has been coupled to the 7-Speed DSG automatic gearbox. The GT TDI on the other hand, will continue to be offered with a manual tranny only. The ARAI certified fuel efficiency figures stand at 20.14 kmpl and 19.91 kmpl for the Polo 1.5 TDI and the Polo GT TDI, while the GT TSI returns a mileage of 17.21 kmpl.
Cosmetic updates on the new range of Polo includes, a new front grille, new front number with integrated fog lamps and cornering lights, new headlamps, new rear bumper with integrated license-plate carrier and reflectors, new wheels covers and new 15-inch alloy wheels. On the inside, the changes are limited to new seat fabrics and upholstery, a sportier steering wheel and silver-painted centre console. Airbags have been fitted as standard on all versions of the new Polo.

The deliveries of the new Polo will commence from 15th July, whereas as the GT variants and the Cross Polo will start shipping from September 2014.
