Swedish automaker Volvo has finally given the all-new 2014 Volvo S80 luxury sedan its commercial launch in a event that got underway a while ago, at the T3 terminal of the Indira Gandhi International airport in New Delhi. The asking price for the S80 Facelift is Rs 41.65 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi.)
The facelifted model brings to the table some minor styling and feature updates. The most notable change is in the grille, which has now been made smaller and wider than before. The bumper has been revised, while the headlights now get daytime running lamps with LEDs. Changes to the wheel’s design and the rear bumper completes the visual upgrades.
Interior has a smooth and functional layout with an all-black theme having wooden inserts on the dashboard and a bit more on the central console, which also features a floating design. Number of buttons are a bare minimum and easily accessible. The colourful digital instrument cluster can be customized to display information pertaining to fuel efficiency or performance – whichever you choose. Seats are comfortable at both the front and rear with ample legroom. Interior is quite spacious and has been built with high quality materials.
The 2014 Volvo S80 Facelift is being offered in two variants in the Indian market - the D4 and the D5 - both of which run on diesel. The D4 variant uses a five cylinder engine displacing 2,000cc, which produces 165PS of max power and 400Nm of peak torque. The top-end D5 variant is being powered with a five cylinder 2.4-litre engine that is rated at 215PS and 440Nm. Both engines come mated with a 6-Speed automatic transmission. The 0 to 100 kmph mark is reached in 7.8 seconds and features a combined fuel efficiency of 12.5 kmpl with a restricted top speed of 225 kmph.
The Volvo S80 will rival the likes of BMW 5-Series, Mercedes Benz E-Class, Audi A6 and the Jaguar XF in the Indian market. Like all Volvo cars, the S80 too, is being imported into the country via the CBU route.
